Hi,

I'm trying to change my password on my spotify account but it says "Another account is already registered with this email address."

 

What do I do?

Very simple.  I have forgotten my password.  Resetting the password looks straight forward but then it asks me to put in my "current" password which I have forgotten.  Any ideas?

To get a password reset:
1. Go to https://www.spotify.com/password-reset/
2. If you get redirected to your online profile (where you need to current password to make the change), you are still logged into the website. Click on your name at the top and choose Log Out.
3. Return to https://www.spotify.com/password-reset/ and you should be able to request a reset.

Hey folks!

 

I reinstalled Spotify after some time and couldn't remember my password. Spotify helped me to reset it, I got the link and changed it. I am able to log in to my accoung on the website but cannot do so in the downloaded version of Spotify Free. It always tells me, that my login information is incorrect even though it is the exact same username and password (which I just reset) as with the website.

 

Any ideas or help? I've tried contacting Support twice but I don't know whether they ever got the message since I never got an answer from them.

Are you definitely logging in using your username and not your email address?

Definitely used the username.

Just tried, can't log in to the app on the phone either. Same message, saying that either username or password is incorrect.

I quickly had to deactivate the email associated with my spotify account due to a hacking issue, and have since realized that I've forgotten my password.

 

Because of this, the reset email goes to a dead inbox.

 

I have attempted to use the contact form, but the initial auto-reply---the one I must reply to to get the attention of an actual person---is also going to that same dead inbox.

 

At this point I am unable to access my mobile account, which was the sole reason for my decision to become a premium member. 

 

Any help appreciated

I cant reset my password says that email already in use

@ögelf - That generally points to a duplicate account hiding in the Spotify system somewhere. If you could get in touch with the customer services team directly using the online contact form they will be able to lend a hand. 

If you get an automated email reply back directing you to the community or help pages, you need to reply directly to that email (even if its from no-reply) and one of the customer services agents will get back to you as soon as possible.

I have the same problem, do you have to fix this for everyone individually? Because it seems like there are a lot of people here that have the same problem.
Is there nothing to be done so that the problem stops poping up?

There isn't a problem. Most issues are simply down to user error. 

 

So..........

 

If your account is linked to facebook, and you can't log in, reset your facebook password here.

 

If you use a spotify login,, you need to be logged out before requesting a spotify password reset.

 

  1. Go to https://www.spotify.com/password-reset/
  2. If you get redirected to your online profile (where you need to current password to make the change), you are still logged into the website. Click on your name at the top and choose Log Out. 
  3. Return to https://www.spotify.com/password-reset/ and you should be able to request a reset.

@wigter - That error message means you have a duplicate/ghost account in the login system, it is an annoying issue caused by having two accounts with the same email address, almost exclusively happens if you use the same email address on Spotify as you do for Facebook. Unfortunately it isn't something we can fix here on the community, the Spotify support guys will need to remove the extra account for you. There are several ways to get in touch!

If you have Twitter, following and dropping a Tweet to @SpotifyCares (English), @SpotifyAyuda (Spanish) or @SpotifyAjuda (Portuguese) is often the fastest way to get a reply and they can deal with the majority of issues excluding payment/billing issues.

Alternatively, you can email them (in any language) using the online contact form. There is also a special contact form if you can't remember your login details or the email address on your account is incorrect. The contact form support team should be able to handle absolutely any issue you are having!

When getting in touch via the contact forms, if you get an automated email reply back directing you to the community or help pages, you need to reply directly to that email (even if its from no-reply) and one of the support agents will get back to you as soon as possible.

I can't change my password either.  If it's because I also have a facebook associated account, please delete it.

doesn't work for me either! When I try to change the password, it takes me to my profile details, name, preferences etc! I've been away from spotify for 6 months cos of this now 😞 pissing off

can't change the password because it thinks I"m trying to register the same email.  I see from your forum this is a common problem. definitely a bug in your coding logic. not sure why it's such a hard fix on your side. and you're manually fixing somehting on the backend? this is a fundamental problem that should be fixed asap.

I went to change my password, howeverI don't remember what my password was, nor do I have my contact email anymore, however I'm logged into my Spotify on my phone and online, is there a way around this as this is my premium account and would like it back asap
