Re: "Official" new application beta release missing feature and wishlist thread

Please put on the wishlist: Possibility to change the offline storage location (this was possible in previous version by tapping "menu" at the login screen).

Re: "Official" new application beta release missing feature and wishlist thread

Things that definitely need to change on this app:

  • Remove the menu button on the top left side.  Add the icons on the bottom (similar to the old app).  Reason for this: thumb swipe radius.  For those with a gnexus or other large phone (mostly ICS phones), you need to akwardly hold the phone (with 1 hand) to access the menu for playlists, whats new, etc - vs easily hitting it with your thumb.  While the current location may be convenient for leftys, right handed people will have a harder time.

Other features that need to be added:

  • Pause of playback on bluetooth disconnect.  I cant tell you how many times I exit my car with my phone in my pocket only to hear blaring music a few seconds later.
  • Possible variable for playback control for those with tasker (mainly play/pause on custom event)
  • Search within playlists
  • As others have said, long-press and menu option for playback of playlists - having to open a playlist then select a random song is annoying.
  • Option for crossfading tracks

Unfortunately the location of the menu is simply following Android development guidelines (http://developer.android.com/design/get-started/ui-overview.html - View Control) - blame Google.

Added a couple of the others to the first post

Re: "Official" new application beta release missing feature and wishlist thread

Thanks for the link, I looked through the whole thing as its pretty interesting.  Although, it seems though that even google does not follow their guildines, and I think maps is a great example.  All the shortcuts you frequently use are at the bottom - search, directions, places, layers and menu.  The menu at the top has navigations to less used icons - I cant actually remember the last time Ive used it - the nav buttons on the bottom are always the easiest to hit.  Of course they are only guildlines, so they can still be broken :smileywink:

Re: "Official" new application beta release missing feature and wishlist thread

The links at the bottom are different - according to the guidelines you can put options here that affect the current view, which is (mostly) what those icons in the Maps app do (apart from search maybe. The menu at the top corner is to include options to take you to different parts of the app - something that both Maps and Spotify menu options do.

I agree that these aren't hard and fast rules though - no reason for Spotify or anyone to stick to them if they don't want.

Samsung Galaxy S2 ICS,

clearing app data and restarting the app gave me playback controls in the lockscreen (with album artwork as backdrop, neat!)

Re: "Official" new application beta release missing feature and wishlist thread

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but do I need to re-download all my offline music for it to be at the 320k Extreme setting? Have had a quick look round but couldn't see this anywhere?

Cheers,

Yep. We were discussing how to actually do this in another thread. Haven't tried it myself yet but apparently if you select 'Undownload' it doesn't actually delete the cache, so then if you try to sync again it simply sees the existing tracks. Possible solution is to wipe the cache to force a resync, but the clear cache option is no longer in the settings menu so you might have to do this manually by deleting the /Android/data/com.spotify.mobile.android.ui directory off the sd card.

If you do it let us know how it goes!
