Applications Update Folder

When Spotify automatically updates, it installs itself in ~/Applications folder and not in {HDD}/Applcations.

How can I fix this?

Currently I have to a) move it manually or b) install the update for every user account.

Re: Applications Update Folder

Certainly this is not the normal behavior, but I think I may have an explanation.  If you have multiple users on your Mac, it sounds as though whichever user received the update may not have administrative permissions on the computer.  To check, go into System Preferences, click on "Users & Groups," depending upon your individual setup, you may need to unlock the panel by clicking the padlock on the lower left, hilight the user who attempted to install the update, and look at the checkbox labeled "Allow user to administer this compter."  If that box isn't checked, that user won't have permissions (by default) to install anything into the /Applications folder, so anything they install will go into the ~/Applications folder instead.

It's hard to say if this will fix your issue in particular, but it's worth checking.

Re: Applications Update Folder

You are correct in that I do not have admin rights on my day-to-day user account, but Spotify is the only application that updates with this behaviour. Other applications prompt for an admin login or at least notify me that an update is available so that I can manage it how I want to. I guess I'll just keep manually moving it.

Re: Applications Update Folder

I agree with you. Someone from Spotify should be looking into this. There is a similar post in the forum with no reply. I have the same issue. And Spotify is the only progam amongst my 20+ applications that can't manage to properly install on Mac OS X machines multiple user accounts - of which most do not have admin rights.
