Spotify wont play songs I own

So I can play streaming songs all I like and I can play songs that I downloaded. But spotify does not like to play songs I have the cds for, I'm not sure why.

I checked before you ask , they are not WMP format.

Re: Spotify wont play songs I own

Hey! Welcome to the community :)

It might be worth checking the file types of your local files, the list of supported local file types for Spotify is here.

Many users also report that installing Apple Quicktime resolves a lot of the playback issues, so that might be worth a shot!

Thanks man, but yeah the files are Mp4, so I'm not sure why, they aren't playing.

Strange, what error message do you get or does it just not play?

Re: Spotify wont play songs I own

Say I double click on it, nothing happens. Like it's not just as if no sound happens, the song never starts.

This also happens if I'm listening to a cd that does work and then the next cd starts and it happens to be one spotify wont play, it just stops then too.

Re: Spotify wont play songs I own

I reintalled quicktime just to be sure, it all works now thanks man.

Spotify should really look into this, I was unable to play these songs for half a year now.

Re: Spotify wont play songs I own

Its a known issue that the team are still investigating, think the problem is they can't reproduce the bug, neither can I. After talking to one of the community staff one day I thought I would have a crack at it but no matter what I did I could not replicate the bug, seems to be totally random!

Glad its working for you :)

[ Edited ]

I just got this issue too but it was after my laptop drive had to be replaced.  I installed iTunes and Spotify and it found my music but certain tracks (all mp4s) would not play.  I am trying the QT install now since I have not put it on the new Windows build and will see if that clears it all up.

EDIT: yeah it all works now after installing QT for Windows.  Thanks!
