There is a problem with your sound card. Spotify can't play music.

I normally run Spotify through my laptop speakers into an external set of computer speakers or headphones.  It sounds pretty good, but works GREAT!  Today I was listening to Spotify in the same place where I DJ at, and my exteral soundcard (A Vestax VCI-300) was lying around.  I plugged in the VCI-300 like I normally do to be able to enjoy some music on my studio monitors. But now Spotify says "There is a problem with your sound card. Spotify can't play music."  Can I not use an external soundcard with Spotify?  I looked for a place to change the default soundcard and didnt see one.  Thanks for any input!

Have you had a look for any Windows updates at all?

I've got the same problem.
My studio machine is Win7/64 with a MOTU 828 and spotify gives the same error message.
Does the software not work with devices that have ASIO drivers?
Shouldn't it work with any audio device that has working audio drivers?
Does it require a non-standard sample rate or bit depth?.. (that isn't 16/44.1k or 16/48k (or even 24bit)
It'd be nice to know if there are any requirements of the audio libraries (open source components etc) that stop it working with specific devices.
At work it runs fine on my linux desktop ;)

Hello.

I have used Spotify with a USB Audio Interface in the past, seemed to work just fine. Is your sound card / audio interface set to be the default audio device on your computer?

Re: There is a problem with your sound card. Spotify can't play music.

On my system the trick was to run Spotify "as administrator".

Mark the exe file in

C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\Spotify

as run as administrator in the compability tab.
