Just updated the Spotify windows client to version 0.8.3.222.g317ab79d and by magic my ipod Touch is now suddenly visible under "Devices" for the first time in months. No changes to network/settings/... no nothing. Just the update. The local files synced perfectly... BUT my iphone 4 with exactly the same version of iOS, Spotify and connected to the exact same wireless network still not visible under "Devices" as before. So clearly a software bug in Spotify that has maybe now been partly fixed, but problems still persist. So Spotify get a move on to fix this completely.

I tried everything I could to fix this and what worked for me was updating my router's firmware. Joined to let yall know. I know it can be frustrating.

9 Pages and Spotify has yet to act like this is worth their time. Customer service at it's best. I unsubbed a month or so ago due to this. If they can help the community figure this out then I would probably resub.

I haven't been able to review this entire monster thread, but I just solved my "device doesn't appear in Spotify: My Devices and won't sync local files" by modifying my laptop's firewall rules.
Windows 7 (no mac for me yet, so this may not apply).
I chose public network for my network type when I initially setup the network, and thus a highly restricture set of firewall rules were applied by corporate policy on my laptop.
I then redefined the local network as a "home" network and POOF. Suddenly my device shows up and syncs great.
Maybe this helps some people, maybe not. Best of luck, so far for me Spotify just improved a GREAT deal!

Hi,
Im having the same problem. I have tried deleting the app numerous times and restarting my ihone 4. I'm still running on ios4 and as a result have spotify for ios4 on my iphone. I connect it to exactly the same wifi connection as my laptop, and my phone doesn't appear in the device list and cannot sync any playlists.
For some reason I cannot download ios5, have tried numerous times with that and it keeps timing out.
I'm paying for spotify premium and cant use the full benefits!!
Please help

I would honestly figure out why you can't load iOS5 first... that sounds like a major problem, and if you don't keep up with the operating system (foundation) you won't be able to keep up with the improvements in the app. iOS wasn't made to support multiple versions well, imo...
Also, if you can't get spotify to load at all, then you're having bigger problems than syncing local files. Spotify should work great for streaming music or offline files without having your iPhone show up in devices and without performing any local sync.
Just my thoughts, figure out the iOS issue first, then you'll probably experience a bunch of happy updates which will make your spotify groove that much happier.

@ginga605
iPod nano is not supported, I don't think... check this page for compatible devices: https://www.spotify.com/us/mobile/overview/
Only iPhone, iPod touch and iPad are supported from what I see... Spotify is not identical to iTunes, you can't just plug in and transfer music around... Hope that helps!
