Add support for Google ChromeCast

Will you be adding support to the ChromeCast that Google announced today? Would be great to be able to easily stream music from all my devices to my receiver and tv.

Update: implementing ChromeCast is superior to using the Chrome browser plugin to move a tab with the Spotify web interface to your TV for multiple reasons. Most importantly:

 - You can stream higher fidelity

 - You can stream from every device, not only from a computer/laptop

 - You can control from multiple devices (so if I leave the room my wife can control Spotify with her phone)

 

If implemented correctly this would match the functionality of Sonos for a much lower price.

 

Update February 4th 2014: Okay, so Google has released the SDK now. Please start working on the functionality or at the very minimum give an update to the status...

 

Update February 19th 2014: 2,000 kudos, hundreds of replies (with more than a handful of cancelations). Apparently Spotify Germany has confirmed Chromecast support is coming. An update would be nice

 

Update March 24th 2014: 2,500 kudos and still no update. Cancelled my subscription today. Sorry, but if you don't listen to your paying customers we will have to speak with our wallets.

I am assuming that was a rhetorical question as this was pretty much my point.  While Connect devices are great and all, I don't need a "one trick pony" device connected to my system when I already have a very talented pony (Chromecast) in place that is completely capable of doing what is needed.

Here a Spotify fan sick of waiting for Chromecast support. No ChromeCast no Premium subscription, simple and fair enough.

Not adding that little cast button in the connect menu is basily a big **bleep** off to everyone who dont have an iphone and receiver with airplay or a pc connected to the soundsystem.

Stupid move to say the least. Even worse when the communitys questions about chromecast are just ignored.

Sick of waiting for ChromeCast support.  Just cancelled my 2 Spotify Premium subscriptions.

I cancelled my Spotify Premium account more than a year ago, just because Spotify did not support Chromecast.

 

A few days a ago I bought a new Yamaha receiver (RX-S600D) with Spotify Connect - and I paid one month with Spotify Premium, just to try out the Spotify Connect feature. And I must say that the Spotify Connect user experience is much better than using the Chromecast (with Deezer or Google Music). Spotify Connect has more or less instant playback when I select the receiver as output device, skip and FF/FB works just like playback on the local device - no delay at all.

 

You can not blame the Chromecast for being fast, it takes ages to load the CC application, and any change in the playback has delays - but it has a nice visual interface on the TV, and it is cheap.

 

I guess that Spotify is waiting for their technology to be well established. To also implement and integrate Chromecast in the Spotify client will probably just make the client more complex and hard to use.

 

So I will most likely continue to use Spotify Premium, and terminate my Deezer subscription.

Still no Chromecast support? Wow, this is taking too long.

 

Since I don't like Apple (although Airplay works great) and want to listen wirelessly at home ( and not through bluetooth) I will have to cancel my subscription (in the near future) and go with Google Music All Acces instead. Since they (obviously) support the Chromecast for streaming. You have been great Spotify but really letting me down now.
