Please ramp up your development processes so that you can actually deliver ideas, that you accept and plan to implement, in a reasonable amount of time.
Right now there are a large number of ideas that have been accepted and have the status "Watch this space" (which I assumed to mean this is being worked on and will be delivered shortly) and "Under Consideration" (which I assumed to mean we are investigating this with a view to implementing it), but have been outstanding for a long time.
Number of ideas marked as "Watch this space" - 3
2 of these ideas are over 6 months old.
Number of ideas marked as "Under Consideration" - 40
32 of these ideas are over 6 months old.
It's hard to understand what the hold up is. It can't be that all of the 43 ideas mentioned above are so complex that they will all take longer than 6 months to implement, so there must be some other bureaucratic or organisational problem with the way you are working at Spotify. Anyway, things need to change. At the moment you are failing to respond to customer requests with anything other than reassurances from support staff here in the community forum. You have failed to deliver any of the 35 ideas that were given the status "Watch this space" or "Under consideration" more than 6 months ago.
*** It's going to be supremely ironic when this idea gets marked as "Not Implementable" ;-) ***
Totally agree.
It can't be that even the 1000+ kudos ideas take so long to be implemented.
If they were complicated, hard to accomplish ideas... okay. But most of those are very simple and basic structure.
Like implementing landscape mode or a simple checkmark for a song when it's already in your playlist.
The only real explanation I come up with is that eventhough there are 1000+ users requesting an idea on this forum, Spotify doesn't regard this as the majority of Spotify users. Of course only a fraction of the whole Spotify users are registered on this forum, but what is the point of that idea section then? To have a place to point at when someone wana improve Spotify?
Also if there are implemented ideas, it looks to me as if they were randomly on the developer's agenda anyway and not because Users requested them badly. If I see a 1000+ kudos idea as a dev, it should be a signal to make that top priority and not just to keep us hoping for ages.
We add kudos to our favorite ideas, but the ideas are being put into a messy box somewhere in the attic of Spotify and are never looked at again.
I wonder what really goes on in the Spotify office.
It can't take this long!
yes, People will just stop sharing ideas, and probably stop using Spotify, if they don't see anything being implemented here. SORTING OF PLAYLISTS ALPHABETICALLY........how hard can that be???
I'm not sure what this idea is meant to achieve. Do you mean you just want us to speed up our development process? We're already working as hard and fast as we can so I'm not sure what extra we could do to satisfy this idea, and it'll be hard to ever mark as 'Implemented' (what's the end date on this?)
Remember, 'missing' features aren't missing just because we're choosing to not work hard on them. Things take time. But if you have any suggestions as to how the Ideas feedback could be done, we'd be happy to hear it.
Development should have been sped up 3-4 years ago!
Repeat track mode has been under consideration for 3-4 years!
To the users, it looks like Spotify is not choosing to implement ideas.
I already heard from an iOS dev that nobody was motivated to implement the repeat track mode feature.
In fact this feature has been the most requested since the launch of Spotify.
@Richard: I don't think it's criticism against you moderators. You do a great job when you give those forum ideas to the developers. It's just that this last step from giving feedback of users to actually implementing the discussed ideas seems to be completely missing.
And if you want to have a suggestion on how handle the ideas feedback:
Set a goal for the developers: Implement at least 1 popular idea in a set amount of time (let's say 2 weeks).
This idea has to be:
- reasonable and able to implement
- highly requested by forum members
- everyone has to admit it's a positive change for Spotify and its members
If you implement only 1 idea every 2 weeks it would be a huge step forward already.
This idea can be simple and tiny like a repeat function for a single song (5-10 minutes work?).
5 minutes work and developers are done for 2 weeks. But at least we users get something that we requested.
It would show the Spotify members that being creative and thinking of ways to improve Spotify is worth it.
Start with small, simple but highly requested ideas and you will get rewarded with positive feedback.
1 idea- each 2 weeks - users happy!
Wow. I hear a lot of complaining, friends. Spotify is an amazing program. The simple fact that they ACCEPT your feedback is HUGE. Now you're complaining that their staff isn't fulfilling your demands fast enough? Surely there is a lot more that goes into implementing "liked" ideas in a large, successful business than you understand. Unless, of course, you're all well experienced in running said large successful business of THE BEST music program available today... (???) Crickets? I hope so. Be thankful for what you have and consider providing some solutions before you cuss them out. Thanks for even being willing to listen to our ideas. Cheers, Spotify.
@Alinanda
Erm, I don't think you understand the real meaning of giving feedback. The sense of giving feedback is not only listening to it... like: "Let me hear your problem.... ok that's awesome - neeeext!" What exactly should make us thankful about that? Of course it's great when the Spotify staff is listening to our suggestions but in the end it only matters if the idea got implemented or not - that's why we posted it here and not for a pat on the shoulder.
You're asking users to provide solutions to our own ideas? Fair enough - check the idea topics. Some ideas are worked out really well, providing exact points on how it could look like.
On another note, I think we all agree that Spotify is a great program, otherwise we wouldn't bother to post suggestions to make it even better. We don't ask for a complete new program, we just ask for minor bug fixes/features that everyone would benefit from.

Yes, that's exactly what I mean, and if, as you seem to imply, you think you are working as hard as you can then I still think this means that Spotify either need more developers or there is something wrong with the way you are working. It's completely incredible that even when you have decided that an idea will be implemented, that six months later it is still not implemented. Simple as that.
But it's not only that, there is a general lack of urgency in everything you do. It's not only ideas that we've been waiting more than six months for, there are at least 4 high profile Android app bugs that were brought to your attention in April and are still not fixed. I'm sure there are bugs on other platforms that have been outstanding equally as long.
It's ok for you to say "Things take time" but if that time drags on longer than six months it's too much, and that's the whole reason that I'm complaining here. If you want us to believe that you are working as hard as you can then you need to very quickly communicate to us exactly what it is you are working hard on because on all platforms we have not seen very much in the last six months.

Hello folks,
I'm happy to finally get to this idea. We believe its important to update the Spotify idea exchange as quickly and thoroughly as possible so we're excited this idea has been proposed. In response, I'm going to try and explain a few things in as much detail as possible.
The first point I would like to bring up is about the Ideas Section and the Spotify Community itself. As you guys know, the Spotify Community is a very new one ( less than 1 year old) and it is in a Beta stage. We are woking very hard in order to create the best Community ever but we still need to improve a lot and the Ideas Section is one of the trickiest parts. Updating ideas is much more than a matter of simply selecting a timeline.
We've come a long way since the days only staff member helping out here. Further, we've seen an impressive increase in regular customer participation. We're super proud of our team along with the participation from customers like the "community founders", "VIPs", and the general community membership base.
Now to discuss the Spotify process for implementing ideas. We'd like to add that each idea can be quite unique. Take the idea for "Discount Family Subscriptions". The idea alters the fundamental structure of streaming payouts which needs to be negotiated with rights holders first. Other ideas are less specific. Take the "Make the Library more functional" idea for example. While we recognize the popularity of the idea can't be ignored, we're working on ways to make music discovery even easier since the concept for the idea is rather general.
I would also like to do a brief review of some of the ideas statuses meaning in order to clarify them, since I see in this thread they are sort of confusing. Check them all here.
Under Consideration: "We’ve submitted the idea internally for consideration". It basically means we passed it to the right people and they are now thinking about that. It doesn't mean we will implement it though, it means the right people know now what users want.
Watch this space: "This idea is now being discussed internally. Don’t hold you breath, but it might happen…" Spotify has decided we are going to implement that idea. It doesn't mean we will implement it in the next days, it means, the ideas has been approved and it will happen sooner or later.
We're working on ways to implement Spotify ideas more quickly. Further, we love when we can communicate in an honest and open manner. As our development process continues to improve, we'll do our best to update the ideas and our community members as quickly as possible.
Thanks so much all for the feedback.
