Improved Crossfade Function

Status: New Idea
by Gordon-18 on ‎07-04-2012 09:02 PM

First I must thank Spotify for implemented the Crossfade function.

But I have an idea on how you could improve it.

Many songs have different length in silence at the end. Some have 7 seconds of dead silence before it ends and some have only 2 or 3.

So on some songs the crossfade may come to early and on some other to late, depending on how many seconds you have set it on. This may result in bad listening experience.

So I think it would be neat if you could have a function witch instead uses the songs dB level to set the perfect crossfade point.

So depending on how much activity it is in the end of the song, it will determinate when the crossfade should occur for the smoothest crossfade. This may be customizable so that you can set your personal dB level favorite preference. As well on how many seconds before the song ends, when it should start analyze the best point for its crossfade.

Just an idéa that would be nice to see in a future version of Spotify.

I agree entirely, i use crossfade on my main spotify set up and all in all its great to finally have it, but some fade really nicely while others just give u a couple of seconds of nothing, so still silence.

Did try gapless but that seems only of use on a complete album that is supposed to be seamless, not as a jukebox feature ?

It would cause this to use too much RAM memory and CPU than necessary I think.

I do not think it will, if you have an pretty modern computer. But this should be able to turn of, if you want to.

I would just like an option where the following song is not faded in.  The volume normalizer function already works really, really well and it seems like 6 seconds is about the sweetspot (for me) on most tracks for cross fading.

There should be an app that would allow you to mix songs better then just 12 sec crossfade.

One should really look into this! An example could be an app looking like;

Mixmeister Fusion. In essence, this idea is about including a mixer in Spotify.

What is the status on this?
