Show the original composer in Spotify

Status: Case Closed

I love how much classical music is on spotify, but if I am listening to a piece I have never heard before, I would like the composer information to be displayed somewhere! The artist and composer are not the same. And the album may not have the composer in it either, especially if it is a compilation.  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ADD COMPOSER INFO!!!

Status: Case Closed

Hello folks,

We really understand this could be really frustrating, we´d also love to display the composer information in all the tracks.

The content which is coming from the right holders sometimes shows up the composer info, sometimes not, that is why you find composer info in some tracks and not in all of them. The right holders sometimes prefer to show the artist info instead of the composer. For instance, if they show the composer of a Lady Gaga´s song, the track will not show Lady Gaga´s name, just the composer and the title.

Therefore, we are going to mark this as "Case Closed", I hope you all understand this. We will get back to you as soon as we get news on this matter.

Thanks a lot for your contribution and feedback.

:)

This is an absolute necessity for Classical Music and a lot of soundtracks/ scores. Maybe make it a optional, viewable column along with the title, artist, album.

Kudo to you because this is definitely a idea for a Spotify App.

This has been an outstanding request on the neglected support site since August 2010:

https://getsatisfaction.com/spotify/topics/need_for_a_composer_column

In September 2011 I tried to bump the topic with the following, which was met with uniform silence from Spotify, seems my parting shot in the post has turned out to be quite ironic:

I've been a paying premium customer since 16/01/2010, so how about a bit of activity on this topic Spotify?

Can you add a composer field?

If you can, when will you do it?

If you can't, why not?

This topic has been open for over a year without any satisfactory response.

"Please use getsatisfaction where we can choose to ignore you."

Absolutely a necessity. If Spotify continues to host a significant library of classical recordings, being able to search by composer is key. Putting composers in the title or artist spot is a inelegant workaround.

Yes! There are now plenty of tracks that don't even mention the composer in their title!

I agree with everyone in this forum. Spotify is a wonderful resource, but listing tracks simply by terms like "allegro" or "A major" hardly provides adequate information about composer or composition. Please add some kind of composer and performer list. Having the CD jacket hardly tells us what is inside something called "Baroque Greatest Hits." Movements of string quartets are not the same as "songs."

As anyone who uses the Gracenote database knows (e.g., iTunes users), the standards for accuracy are pretty low. It's amazing how many recordings there are with Beethoven himself at the keyboard, or how many pieces were written by Molto Adagio. Even so, having some comically inaccurate composers would be infinitely better than having no composers at all. I like Spotify, but this gap is serious.

I worked at Spotify, I would try to work out a deal with Google to handle the search problem. A database of a zillion songs? That's the sort of thing Google does for breakfast. What Spotify has that Google doesn't are the distrubution rights and delivery mechanism. The Spotify app and its embedded versions (e.g., in the Sonos controller) could use Google behind the scenes, and they could use Google's own search results ("Click here to listen to this on Spotify"). This would make sense for pop music, too (the 99%); making it work for classical music would be a freebie.

I agree completely – this one is a must have!

Loving spotify, but having a lot of trouble with this issue.

Your tags for classical music are completely worthless.  The MOST important thing to know about a classical piece is... WHO WROTE THE DAMNED THING.  Your classical music pieces are all identified by stupid things like the tempo marking (adigio which means slow in Italian, or rondo capricioso which means a funny type of music).  These tempo markings are less than worthless because they are used repeatedly in many, many different pieces.  The only thing of use is the comper's name, and it is missing in almost every single tag.  Please add this information so I can listen to your radio service, then know what I'm listening too if I like something.  Thank you.
