Spotify in India

When will Spotify be available in India, at least only for paying subscription plans like Premium?

I think that India culture has broad listening habit in many genres and that they like ambient/new age music much and would like to use Spotify much.

Is China or Australia on the road for being a new launch country?

Hi Krikelin,

We hope to launch in more markets in the future, but we don't have a timeline right now for when Spotify may be in India or other new countries.

For now, please keep an eye on our blog for any updates or news announcements.

India is great potential market  1 billion indians meaning greatest in the world in next 5 years. Software industry in india ruling the globe now -cleary millions of indias on internet. Music industry of india is again biggest in the world releasing highest number of song in one year in the world and bollywood is twice as big as hollywood now and releasing thrice movies as what hollywood produces in a year

Clerly the fan club of hollywood of america is half than bollywood, no-doubt adding india as next big country for spotify can't be taken for granted

In addition the figure are here for one language 'Hindi' there are tollywood, kollywood and some other music industries releasing around 10000 song a year in 6 different languages, beyong imagination of USA and no other country is growing as big in music as india now.

Spoitfy before somebody takes your loaf, take this into your next meeting agenda 'India the next market'   - Time to revist the priorities

You don't need to have all labels aboard at an only time - and I think that most labels in India would appriciate your business - the US is so capitalistic, while the indian market would really benefit. Personally, I think spotify could be a good startup for promoting indian bands in india, and new age stuff and would be very good. I think Indian labels would only take benefit on these services. At least, you could launch with indepenedent music only. A good service will always make sense.

Couple of music sites are hitting millions a day, check out

http://www.gaana.com

http//www.saavn.com

I personally like the Spotify as mac/windows based application henceforth recommending this to go abroad and see outside the closed  american boundaries, where world starts and ends with USA.

So far collection on Hindi songs is reasonable on spotify but reaching abroad is huge market as this is time to learn from facebook (success)  and orkut (failure)

Keeping these thoughts in line, we know the facebook has tight integration with spotify hence if facebook is blast there spotify could be another , now check this site to know the highest number of accounts facebook by country

Time to revisit the thoughts again :-)

You guys should totally launch Spotify in India. I am going back home and I am sad that I wont be able to hear the playlist I created all these days. I am so addicted to Spotify that I play it both at work and home.

Spotify please put India on your priority list for new launches. India can be one of your biggest markets as the volume of music listeners in India is much larger. In India, the success of any movie depends on its songs; the story does not matter at all... this is how India works ;)

Looking forward to Spotify music soon in India...

Even if you make Spotify for India, will you allow UK and USA tracks in that ?? Copyrights are not available for most of the tracks and they come late after 4 months in retail stores. Thus i think, the law system does not allow spotify. Only other option for cloud base streaming is grooveshark which works everywhere cause they might not be as legit as Spotify is.
