Please don't use the DEVICE_ID as a unique identifier on the Android app!

So, recently I was testing my latest app that allows you to change the DEVICE_ID of your android device.

I noticed that whenever it was changed the Spotify app would become logged out and all of my offline tracks would be removed.

It is a bad idea to use the ANDROID_ID as it can be easily changed, and sometimes doesn't exist on devices.

I believe they used to use the IMEI, but that caused the app to crash on devices without an IMEI, as it was null. To fix the crash they switched to the ANDROID_ID. Stop me if I'm getting close ;)

They should use the Mac address, as that doesn't change, and is the same across ROM flashes most of the time.

Thanks for reading, and I composed this on my mobile - the mobile app removes all formatting including line breaks.

Apps like Soundcloud will lower the volume when a notification or GPS voice direction is played (known as ducking). Spotify still pauses the track. This is much more distracting, particularly when driving.

This Android feature is documented in the Android API.

Library feature in Android

I don't know how it is on other phones, but on my Samsung Galaxy 2 there is no library feature. It would be very nice to have it so I can search, sort after artist and that kind of stuff.

Thanks

Separate Volume Control On Android

Status: New Idea

A separate volume control for the Android app would be a great addition to an already impressive application. This is needed for those of us that use Google Navigation, Google no longer separates the audio for navigation from the main audio feed and the new voice of navigation is very soft. When listening in the car the volume of the music has to be turned up fairly loud to be able to hear the navigation audio. If you have others in your car you really cannot use Spotify and still be able to carry on a conversation. Separate audio controls for the Spotify app should solve this quite nicely.

Ever since the new update, i'm are not capable of searching for songs/artist/albums on my Android device if I am offline. This is incredibly frustrating because this means I have to scroll through me playlist (containing over 700 songs on each playlist) to find one indivisual track, arist, or album. Spotify needs to bring this feature back to android devices.

Searching in your offline playlists has never been possible to begin with.
There's a popular idea here to add that feature though:
