You know I have been thinking recently, about how Spotify could help me track my favourite artists - and at the same time also how I could rationalise what is fast becoming an unmanageable number of album playlists. I have been basically laying out playlists folders like I would in my HD music collection - By Genre, then Artist, then Album (in date order) and then saving the album to that folder. Very time consuming, and very silly - seeing as Spotify has a perfectly good artist page, with all the albums in (mostly!) chronological order. But of course if I want to find that artist page I have to use the search facility - ok for music discovery, but not very intuitive for a collection. So - what about Spotify offering an Artist playlist - so I can drag an artist or right click an artist whilst on their page and add them to my library in the playlist pane.
So I could make a Jazz playlist folder, go find Miles Davis, right click on his name on the artist page and choose Add to Playlist (I would then of course navigate to the Jazz playlist folder I had made before) and choose 'New Playlist'. Spotify client wouldn't add all the artist albums to the playlist folder, just a link with the artists name to their Spotify page - bingo! Now I can quickly get to that artist whenever I want, plus I can always see their latest releases just by clicking the artist in my playlist folder pane. Of course this isn't an auto notification for new stuff being added, that's still required at some point, nor is it ideal as the artist page will have albums I am not interested in on it as well as my favourites - but it's a start? Perhaps someone can refine this further?
Although this idea has been suggested first, I'd like to point you to a similar, more popular idea here:
