I often just glance over my activity feed when I am doing work, and see my friends listening to a whole variety of tracks. I think it would be a great idea, if you could go directly from the Activity Feed, to the location your friend is listening from so you can see what else they are listening to, or listen to the same thing.
Obviously, there is privacy concerns with this, so the "arrow" shown below should only be displayed when the person is listening to a public playlist or from an album/artist page (and they share their activity). It would be similar to the "Listen with" functionality when signed into Facebook, but would not be synchronized or require you to go to Facebook!
I would suggest something like a small arrow (this is as small as I could make it in pain) in each entry in the activity feed which would take you to the playlist/page the track is being played from:

To all Spotify desktop users out there:
There should be collapse buttons on main/apps and collection just like on the playlists. This would make it easier to choose what you want higlighted. It is also a problem on laptop and other monitors with a 16/9 ratio where there is limited vertical resolution.
From a die-hard Spotify user with at least 3 years premium account.
Android, Desktop (Windows 7 and 8), Squezzebox, XBMC all connected.
I was thinking about this earlier, and I really want my Spotify profile (link) to be much more personal and show information from my other social networks. Currently Spotify does a good job of keeping my friends up to date with my Spotify activity, but I would like my Facebook, Twitter and what I am currently listening to displayed on my profile.
Something like this:
Since privacy of Facebook and Twitter are controlled by the website, I would love there to be a link directly from my Spotify profile to my corresponding Social Network profiles. I use Spotify a lot of the time to see what my friends are listening to, so it would be great if there was a one click way to get to their Facebook page too for example.
Also, I would love for there to be a way to display live what I am listening to on my Spotify profile, since it is not possible to view someones current activity without following them.
Please add your kudos and comments if you agree or have any other related thoughts!
I'm a DJ. I want a DJ interface for Spotify, where I can play two tracks at once over the top of each other.
It doesn't have to be anything complex -- just two tracks and a crossfader would do the job. But if you fancy adding things like waveforms, pitch-shifting, and other functionality, that would be lovely too.
It would be nice if the Spotify client for Windows and OSX had an vertical/smaller display mode to complement the standard horizontal mode. Below is a quick mockup:
It would suit for those occasions when you need to be economical with the desktop space (but still want to keep track on your playlist). For example smaller laptop screens and occasion when you have multiple applications running at the same time (e.g. Spotify next to your browser).
With this mode you could easily “snap” the app to either side of the window. Today you need to minimize/maximize the windows since horizontal layouts only allow a certain level of slimness. Working as a web developer you usually keep track of an a lot of windows on multiple screens. It would be great if you could “snap” Spotify next to outlook or your favourite development tool, instead of having to switch between them.
Since the player would be a bit smaller in the vertical orientation, the UI/functions would probably be a slimmed down (to avoid a cluttered look). But to access all the functions you could just use a hotkey and switch to the complete horizontal mode. Or maybe integrate some "responsive web" thinking for alternating between vertical/horizontal layouts!
I would like to be able to hide the "User" column on playlists which are not collaborative (or have never been collaborative) since the column will always say the same name the whole way down the playlist, and that users name will be at the top anyways!
This is not such a problem on a widescreen computer like my laptop above, but on my desktop with its extra little 15" screen the User column just takes up unneccessary space which introduces horizontal scrolling.
In my eyes the duplicated data is just not needed!
I have no desire to download MP3s through Spotify, and I never will. Can I have the option to hide the "Get" buttons, please? I accidentally click them sometimes, and they clutter up what was once a really lovely, bare-bones desktop client.
Right now you can view large album art if you are playing a song, but if browsing for an album you can only view a very small version of the album cover. If would be nice if (a) you could right-click on the small album cover image and get an option to view the large album art or (b) show the large album art on the album page.
I want to pluck the Browser-style Back/Forward buttons that are available on Desktop version and drop them smack somewhere into mobile version.
i.e. I want the ability to hop Back to the previous song played when it was on a previous playlist- not just back to previous song on current album or playlist- and by extension, the ability to hop Back to that previous playlist.
This modest improvement to functionality could be effected by:
Adding the ubiquitous left/right back/fwd triangle buttons to edges of current area containing REW |<< and >>| FFW
Adding said buttons as a transparent overlay that appears somewhere on top of the album cover
Adding Back/Forward functionality to the options that get called up in dark grey overlay that shows when small i button is activated
I prefer option 3. because it's least disruptive to current UI, the simplicity of which I really enjoy. If users howl for the function to be more front and center then someone on payroll can figure out a solution, I have no doubt.
Option 1. would have a crowding effect. One thing I love about Spotify mobile is the clean and simple feel of the design.
Option 2. would look clunky, and some users may regard that album cover area as inviolable.
'Back' is a great way to not lose track of songs and artists that I haven't yet starred or added to a playlist while I'm discovering new music on desktop version, or just handy for general navigation. Not having this functionality on mobile results in a few additional, frustrating clicks and swipes to go Back when I want to. (Changed my mind about Chief Keef playlist, let's go back to A Day to Remember!) This is exacerbated when playlists are mysteriously cloning themsleves at night like Gremlins.
P.S. If somehow this in there already and I'm just too daft to have noticed it... stellar! Point me in that direction and I'll gladly pipe down.
