Listening History On Mobile Devices

Status: New Idea
by Musical Legend ‎27-12-2013 12:14 PM - edited ‎27-12-2013 12:14 PM

On the Desktop client it is possible to view your listening history (Play Queue > History), this functionality should be added to the mobile applications too.

It could be added very nicely into the new "Me" tab on iOS:

Add Shuffle Play Button to Artist Pages on Premium Accounts

Status: New Idea
by Musical Legend ‎27-12-2013 01:01 PM - edited ‎06-01-2014 08:05 PM

Sometimes (even with Premium) I just want to listen to an artist on shuffle. Why can't my premium account have the Shuffle Play button like my test free account does?

The Shuffle Play button on premium account should simply shuffle play all of the artists content on Spotify (so no suggested tracks like you sometimes get on the free version).
Can you shuffle all of the playlists and tracks within on the Ipod Touch?  I made lots of playlists by artist name, with hundreds of tracks in all of them.  In spotify itself you can click on "library" under "collection" to shuffle all of it, but there is no "collection" or "library" buttons on the Ipod app.  It seems you can only shuffle within a particular playlist and not all of them on the Ipod.  Is that true or am I missing something?
I wholeheartedly concur. I am an album guy so I am alway creating offline available playlists for individual albums. But sometimes it's good to put all music in play randomly. Doesn't seem to be supported on the mobile version currently.

Can we see this feature at some point?
Status: Under Consideration

Hello folks,

Sorry for the delay on updating this idea, we have a lot coming in everyday and it is hard to prioritize.

We´ve just marked this idea as "Under Consideration". We have passed internally and our team is considering and thinking of the best way to make it happen. Check out this thread for next updates.

Thanks for your contribution and feedback, we really appreciate this ;)

Gapless playback on mobile devices

Status: Implemented
by dbfreedom on ‎23-02-2012 01:40 PM

Good news that the desktop Spotify no longer has artificial gaps between songs, but could this also be implemented on mobile, please?

Status: Implemented

Since we first launched the gapless playback feature in desktop, we've been planning to implement this for mobile devices. Due to the feedback from everyone, our Android team has worked hard to ensure this feature was built into the release in Google Play this week. You can find the feature in your device Settings. Enjoy :)

I wrote an email about this a while ago and got a response back that it's something they would like to maybe do but they needed more interest in the idea before they devote time to it.

I'm not sure if this is for the other mobile apps too but I know my adroid app doesn't have this.  Basically, there are a few music apps (not sure if I can mention the name but one I used to use a lot with the initials W.A.) out there that have check box in settings that lets the app use the headset/headphones to control play, pause, skip, etc. instead of controlling the phone.

Right now, if I try to use the controls on my headphones to play, pause, or skip while in the Spotify app it will simultaneously dial the last incoming or out going number in my phone.

It's just handy, especially in the winter so I don't have to haul my phone out of my pocket or dig in my bag for it, I don't have to haul off my gloves, mittens, or go buy special ones to use the touchscreen (I would imagine it would be a pain if your exercising or something like that too)...only have to click one of the buttons on my headphones.

Use Existing Song Files on Mobile Devices

Status: New Idea
by jaidedwings on ‎20-10-2012 11:38 PM

I have always been very frustrated with the fact that if I want to listen to a song or use it in a playlist (offline) within the Spotify app, I cannot do so with a song that is already on my device.

I use the Spotify app on my iPhone for most of my music listening. However, I have a handful of other apps that allow me to listen to my local music through them (like a game or workout app for example), but all these other apps can only see songs on my iPhone that were synced via iTunes. Say I want to listen to a certain playlist or album during my workout using my workout app, but I also want to listen to those same songs later in the Spotify app (offline, to save on data streaming). This would require me to have TWO copies of each song on my device (Which is rediculous! Who has the extra space for that?), one in the native music player library, and one synced using Spotify.

PLEASE find a way for the Spotify app to recognize the existing songs on a mobile device without having to sync them using desktop Spotify. No one should have to have duplicates of local songs on their device. Compatibility with the local native music on a device would be a godsend!

"Starred" Tab on Artist Page.

Status: New Idea
by jag_ceter on ‎06-11-2012 09:49 PM

I have a good deal of artists who have quite a few songs I enjoy besides their top hits. I don't want to have to make a playlist for all of these, there would be too many, and take too much effort to find while driving.

I want to be able to voice search an artist like normal, and then quickly see all the songs i have starred by them.

As a side note, this feature could totally replace the biography page, or just be it's own new tab. I've only sparsly ever used the biography tab.

There should be an inline mockup that i made below.

Bring back car controls

Status: New Idea
by Prankstar on ‎30-01-2013 10:54 AM

I would like for Spotify bring back support for car stereos. I have read multiple threads under the IOS forum section, and it seems to be a general problem:

 • Cannot change track/songs via the controls on the radio/steeringwheel.
 • Cannot see song informations on the radio screens.

Though i have found out that people USED to have the support for all of this, but when updating to a newer version of Spotify it stopped working. Last known working version of Spotify was Version

I would very much appreciate of Spotify to look into this, and bring back propper car controls. It wont only make for a great feature, but also save lifes (from people beeing busy changing songs directly on the phones).

Reference threads:

Thanks Spotify team for adding folders to the playlist section of the Android App, but when I go to playlists and want to open a Folder I have to scroll down all the way to all playlist. This is because there is this really annoying section of only downoalded playlists.

And when I have moved inside of a folder and want to go back, i have to scroll back, because the App doesn't remember the place in the list, where  I was...

We don't need a section with only the downloaded playlist. It just makes it much more impractical to use this section of the app.

Just let the not downloaded Playlists disappear when I go to offline mode or something like this. But this is just so annying.

I have 63 playlist downoaded. I have to scroll down all of this playlists to go the the folders. Why?

If you so badly want this feature, please make a own section with just dowloaded playlists or folder. But don't just inundate the playlistsection.

Messages on mobile!

Status: New Idea
by OmnipotentPilot on ‎30-10-2013 07:39 PM

I love how "inbox" is now "messages" on my desktop, but I really miss having it when I'm using my android. It'd be awesome if the new "messages" was implemented in mobile apps!!! :D

Status: New Idea

Marked as new idea although I think this should only be a matter of time when the new Message view is rolled out to every platform. ;)

Easier "Star" Button for Mobile

Status: New Idea
by EsCaRgOt on ‎22-04-2013 10:39 PM

I primarily use Spotify daily while in my car because I am a Marketing Rep which requires my 9-5 is strictly behind the wheel. I've completely replaced my iPod with Spotify but I find it's hard to "Star" a song while on the road. I use my Star folder as a way to eventually organize those songs into my subfolders.

I'm sure you know the way to Star a song already so I won't delve into those details but there is definite room to add a "Star" button by moving the "Last Song - Play - Next Song" buttons more to the left/right and placing the button there.

Status: New Idea

This idea suggests an easier way to "star" tracks on iOS and WP8. Something like on Android, where the star button is next to the current song information on the "now playing" screen.

The idea here is to to be able to be able to move or copy all songs from within a playlist to a new or existing playlist via the android mobile app.

As it stands, I have to click the shortcut button for each song and then press "+ Add to"

...bringing us one step closer to a mobile app that does it all!

On the android mobile app, the "Playlists" screen shows the # of songs within each playlist. In my case, the number of songs in this particular playlist was 9. When I viewed the playlist itself, there was only 8 songs! What is going on here, what is this mystery song?! :smileyfrustrated:

Come to find out, when I went on Spotify via desktop, there was 1 song on this playlist that has become unplayable. via mobile, I wanted to move all tracks from this playlist to another (which will be my next "New Idea"), but I didnt want to lose whatever this invisible song was; maybe it was a really good one?

Long story short, there's no option on the android mobile app to show, or hide, unplayable songs as there is on the desktop version. I no longer want to be left in the dark!

Recently I submitted a question, asking if it was possible for me and my brother to create a playlist that only we could manage, but one that all our friends (and possibly everyone else) could listen to. I was told that this was not possible, and that made me a tad sad, and so I decided to submit an idea instead.

It is really simple.. When you have created a playlist, you should be able to add playlist staff members.. You should be able to manage permissions for them, and let them help you create awesome playlists. This would strongly encourage people to interact more with each other through the social part of Spotify (Facebook integration etc), and help build an awesome community around playlists.

Suggestions to what permissions could be given:

 • Change playlist settings (Name, publicity, description, avatar etc)
 • Manage staff members (Modify permissions for them, add new and so on)
 • Add tracks
 • Remove tracks

Thank you for considering this! If you like this idea, please click the little "KUDOS" button!

Bring Android Now Playing Screen to iOS

by peterjwu on ‎12-12-2013 08:13 PM

The Android app's now playing screen is so much better organized than the iOS app.

There's much less dead space with no black bars above and below the album art. Options like shuffle, repeat, starring a track, and more weren't buried in an overlay that requires an extra tap and covers the album art. It also shows the current list that's playing, whether it's an artist or a playlist at the top.

A layout like this (obviously adapted to fit iOS 7's style) would be much better than what we have now.

I'd also like to see the constantly teased play queue feature added to the app!

Make a contract with Carriers for unlimited Spotify data (in Portugal)

Status: New Idea
by Pedro_P on ‎04-09-2013 09:16 PM - last edited on ‎05-09-2013 12:04 AM by World Tour

The only thing that is keeping me from subscribing to spotify Premium is the fact that i have a limited internet plan on my phone, like most people in the world, and there is no unlimited option. There is a Spotify like service offered by some other mobile carriers in my country that have unlimited data for that service but its far from being as good as spotify. If you do any partnership like for example with Vodafone we would all benifit from that.

from Portugal

(i searched and i was surprised to not find this idea)

Status: New Idea

Marked as new idea and added (in Portugal) in the title, since Spotify has already a few contracts with mobile carriers in other countries e.g. Germany and the UK.

I cant tell you howmany times I have been listening to a peticular station at my desk or laptop and want to continue listening to that same station on my phone without having to fiddle with radio stations etc. Why cant my play button just play from where I last stopped on the last active device? I understand this is probably a significant change in current behavior perhaps it can be a preference or setting. I would gladly forego yet another UI reshuffle for a feature like this.

I want to pluck the Browser-style Back/Forward buttons that are available on Desktop version and drop them smack somewhere into mobile version.

i.e. I want the ability to hop Back to the previous song played when it was on a previous playlist- not just back to previous song on current album or playlist- and by extension, the ability to hop Back to that previous playlist.

This modest improvement to functionality could be effected by:

 1. Adding the ubiquitous left/right back/fwd triangle buttons to edges of current area containing REW |<< and >>| FFW
 2. Adding said buttons as a transparent overlay that appears somewhere on top of the album cover
 3. Adding Back/Forward functionality to the options that get called up in dark grey overlay that shows when small i button is activated

I prefer option 3. because it's least disruptive to current UI, the simplicity of which I really enjoy. If users howl for the function to be more front and center then someone on payroll can figure out a solution, I have no doubt.

Option 1. would have a crowding effect. One thing I love about Spotify mobile is the clean and simple feel of the design.

Option 2. would look clunky, and some users may regard that album cover area as inviolable.

'Back' is a great way to not lose track of songs and artists that I haven't yet starred or added to a playlist while I'm discovering new music on desktop version, or just handy for general navigation. Not having this functionality on mobile results in a few additional, frustrating clicks and swipes to go Back when I want to. (Changed my mind about Chief Keef playlist, let's go back to A Day to Remember!) This is exacerbated when playlists are mysteriously cloning themsleves at night like Gremlins.

P.S. If somehow this in there already and I'm just too daft to have noticed it... stellar! Point me in that direction and I'll gladly pipe down.

And the other way around, when leaving work while listening.
