New Idea

I often just glance over my activity feed when I am doing work, and see my friends listening to a whole variety of tracks. I think it would be a great idea, if you could go directly from the Activity Feed, to the location your friend is listening from so you can see what else they are listening to, or listen to the same thing.

Obviously, there is privacy concerns with this, so the "arrow" shown below should only be displayed when the person is listening to a public playlist or from an album/artist page (and they share their activity). It would be similar to the "Listen with" functionality when signed into Facebook, but would not be synchronized or require you to go to Facebook!

I would suggest something like a small arrow (this is as small as I could make it in pain) in each entry in the activity feed which would take you to the playlist/page the track is being played from:

What do you guys thinks?

Currently when you share a playlist to Facebook/Twitter, it shows in your activity feed (and that of your followers) like below:

sharing collab.png sharing my own.png

The numbers shown, in this case "5" and "11" correspond to the number of followers the playlist has, although that is made in no way clear when you view the Activity feed. Since it is not possible to view all of the playlist followers anyway (clicking the number does nothing) I think it would make much more sense to display the date/time that the playlist was last updated.

Something like:

Thoughts?

When one of your friends is listening to Spotify Radio, it would be really cool if you could "tune in" to their station and listen to the same things they are. It could even go so far as to sync the playhead so that you're listening to the same thing at the same time.

Sort of like Soundrop without the democracy. :)

An idea to tune in to someone else's session and hear the same music as your friend in real time (not only radio), has already been suggested here:

Show Currently Playing Track in iChat

Status: New Idea
by musickevin on ‎14-03-2012 03:27 PM

Just like iTunes, it would be great if Spotify could show the currently playing track as an iChat status (and even a Skype status). That's all. Nice and easy. Not a deal-breaker, but a nice touch.

I have a group of friends who all search for new music... It would be nice to see what type of influence you have on the Spotify community.

If my friends stop by my page and pulled a song or two from my playlists I would love to know!

Maybe give people "Referral Points" for each song that was used from your playlist or after sending it to somebody/posting on facebook?

Heck, if somebody has 500 subscribers and posts a new song from an artist that everyone loves... that song will probably spread throughout the Spotify community. If somebody did that for me I would definitely want to let them know how thankful I was or give them something in return for being so influential in music.

Would be nice if there was a reward system setup from some of the artists for making referrals~

I feel the social side of spotify is somewhat lacking at the moment. Firstly, I can't connect with my Twitter friends, who, let's be honest, have much better music taste than my facebook friends, who are mostly people from my high school that I never spoke to. Also there doesn't seem to be a way to find anybody that's not one of your Facebook friends. There should be a way to search for people who have Spotify accounts, regardless of what other networks they're on. It seems like the only way to find people is to search 'spotify:user:usernamehere' which isn't really the most intuitive, and requires trial and error to guess what their username is.

I think the 'People' tab should show a list of people that you're subscribed to, with a stream of activity showing playlists they've made, albums they've listened to etc. and perhaps the ability to post statuses: recommending songs to your 'followers'. Which brings me to another point. There doesn't seem to be any way of knowing who is subscribed to you (as a user, not just a certain playlist). How many 'subscribers' do I have, and who are they? I guess some of these features may be in there already, but if they are, it's not obvious or easy to find.

I think these features would really help make Spotify more engaging, which would be useful now that Rdio is a competitor in the UK, and does social things very well.

Please just post 1 idea per topic, otherwise the Spotify moderators don't know for which ideas the kudos are meant. The 2nd part of your idea has been implemented in the newest version of Spotify.

An idea about connecting and sharing via Twitter has also been suggested here:

Better friend stream

by mlaurvig on ‎09-02-2012 11:19 PM

I would love more sorting options in the friend stream at the right of the screen.

1. I would like to sort which friends I want to see in the steam, it's not everybody that has the same taste in music as me.

2. It could be nice to see the album cover in the steam, instead of their profile picture.

3. When I click on a featured freind, there will come a popup where you can press play to hear what the freind is lisiting to. It                could be nice if you redesigned that feacture. You could mabye press the music symbol at the right of the profile picture to              listen to the song, and when you press the profile picture, you would be directed to their profile.

Thanks for a great service Spotify:)

I don't require all my Facebook contacts to share the same musical taste.  Currently have one 24/7 sounddrop user friend with deplorable musical taste who is flooding the Spotify social list to the point I can't see what anyone else is listening to.  It would be so nice to be able to ignore him.

end-user should be able to create TAGS for songs. include standard tags like "rock" and "soul", but allow the user to create their own tags, and use this as cross-referenced information to organize not only the user's own music collection, but also to match characteristics of other users' music or playlists. user-created tags would allow Spotify to recommend more musically accurate songs, as the characteristics and style of the songs have been peer-reviewed. it's no secret that Spotify radio is weak. Utilize the social network of Spotify by tapping into the users' knowledge and experience of music.

Shuffle friend's music

Status: New Idea
by mikey on ‎17-02-2012 03:00 AM

What if Spotify could generate a playlist of the top songs of a user's friends? Right now a user can view trending playlists and a few top tracks but what if you could shuffle more tracks? I know that Facebook can tell which friends interact more/ are "closer." I'm not sure if Spotify has this ability or if it could use this data from Facebook to show users what their "closer" friends are listening to.

Hi Spotify,

I think this is an an awesome product but I just had an idea which I always feel would be implemented but as the days pass I do don't see it.

I feel like the friend stream takes up a fairly large portion of the interface real estate but is the most under-utilized area.

It's great to see what my friends play but so much more can be built off this section to make it more engaging and interactive.

It would be awesome to "like" (internally through Spotfiy or through the Facebook API) a song that my friend plays. As multiple people like a specific song or artist, it should show or give an option to show who else likes a specific song and/or artist so that I can have a good sense of which of my friends or group of friends like the same songs or artist. This would make it more likely for me to take the time to listen to a particular artist/song as well as allow for the person who played the song on the feed to see that I liked the song they played and get friend-support. Once you like a particular song, it would be permenantly associated to that song (so you don't have to like it multiple times). I'm sure this could also help with the radio product.

On the biz end, artists/spotify can use or sell this info to see what their fan-base enjoys.

Just an idea I had where I think multiple parties can benefit.
