Can't add songs to a collaborative playlist

Can't add songs to a collaborative playlist even though I have liked it and added it to my library. It does not come up when I go to add a song. The creator of the playlist has checked everything on their end and did not find any issues.

Thanks for posting in the Community and welcome.

In this case, we'd like to gather some additional info. Did you just add the playlist to your library, or did you accept an invitation from the creator of the playlist to join as a collaborator? Keep in mind that these are different options.

If you didn't accept an invitation to join the playlist, then you're just following the playlist. In other words, you can check the changes the owner made there, but you can't change anything on the playlist yourself. Can you see the playlist in your library but not add tracks? If yes, then most likely you're just following it.

No worries! The owner can follow these steps to invite you to collaborate on the playlist. Nevertheless, if you did accept an invitation, perhaps it's worth if the owner send you once more the invite.

I have the same issue but when I view Spotify on my desktop - on my phone it allows me to add songs to a collaborative playlist.

Are there any solutions?

Welcome to the Spotify Community @sarahvella02!

Sounds like you might be using the Web Player, which has limited functionality. Could you try dragging & dropping a song into the playlist to see if that would work?

If possible, I'd recommend using the desktop app for the full Spotify experience.

In case you were already using the desktop app, check if you're logged in to the correct account, as you might be logged in to one where you're just following the playlist.

I want to add songs to a collaborative playlist.
The playlist is not proposed as a destination to add the songs through right click in the app.
The playlist is added to my library.
When I want to add any songs into it through drag and drop, this specific playlist is greyed out.

Hi I am using the desktop app and I cannot add songs to a collaborative playlist. I can do it on my mobile but not my desktop app. I was able to use the drag option but nothing else.

Thanks for posting in this thread!

@itsraex - Just to make sure we cover all bases, on the desktop app, are you able to add a song to the collaborative playlist by following these steps:

Right-click the song you'd like to add.
Select Add to playlist.
Click Find a playlist & search for the playlist by its name. Or scroll & find it directly from the displayed list.
Click on the playlist to add the song.

If the option doesn't appear, it's worth checking the status of the playlist to see if the owner's given you editing rights and that your account is listed as Collaborator.

Alternatively, should the issue persist, is that the playlist owner sends you a new invite, to see if you notice any difference. They can do so by following the steps here. It's also worth noting that collaborative playlists and its features differs slightly when opened in the Web Player, so make sure to follow the above steps through the desktop app 🙂

I cannot add a song to playlist.
1. the playlist is confirmed to be public

2. I've tried Spotify Desktop client for Mac, and Spotify iOS and neither work

3. I've tried using the "Add to playlist" option and searching for the playlist, which does not appear as an option. I've tried clicking and dragging the song to the playlist and it's greyed out.

This is not user error. The product is not working as intended.

Could you send us a video recording of this behaviour so that we can take a closer look at what's going on?
You can either upload it here or e.g. to YouTube/ Google Drive and send us a link to it.
Just make sure the access is set to public/ link only if you decide to share it from an outside source.

Doesnt work on apple ios app. Android user shared a playlist as collaboration, i accepted it but add to playlist does not show the collaboration playlist.

Seems like a problem on the android side. Android app doesnt show the collaborators on the playlist even though it was sent via messaging platform and the recieved clicked accept and can see it.

Does the playlist appear in Your Library and is it possible for you to leave it? If that's so, would you mind leaving it then asking the user on Android to send you the link with the invitation via another platform and not via Spotify Messages? It'd also be helpful if they could create a new collaborative playlist and send you a new invitation to test if the same thing would happen.

If the issue persists, we'd like to take a further look of how things look like from your end and you could send us a video as previously requested by @Vasil in this post.

Collaborative playlist - can’t add songs

Collaborative playlist issue: my wife and I are in the same family plan. We can see each other’s playlists in our library after making collaborative and adding each other, but we can’t add songs to a playlist the other person created. We’ve reinstalled the app and tried creating new playlists as well, but still doesn’t work. Please help! I’ve tried doing this in the app and desktop version. We both have iPhones.

Hi. Yes I accepted an invitation and vice versa. Tried multiple times and sharing existing playlists and setting up new ones. All with invites.

Does the same happen if you try to invite your wife to collaborate using a different account? You can ask for the account of a relative or a friend to open it on your mobile device and check.

We'd also like to gather some additional info. Please send us:

The make/model and OS of the affected devices.
The exact Spotify version you're running there.
A video recording of this behavior. You can attach the video in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public.
Note: Be aware this is a public space, so please don't share any personal info on the video you'll send us.
