My ssue

The playback speed for the podcast is being reset to 1x every time you open the app. Previously, the app would remember your setting and start playing the podcast at the speed you had chosen before (for example, 1.2x). It is really annoying to have to change this setting each time you open the app.

This issue began in the last couple of weeks, before that, it worked just fine.

I am experiencing the same issue in the iPhone app. It is very frustrating and annoying. I’m using iOS 18.1.1 and latest app version.

Thanks for getting in touch about this here in the Community.

We tried this on our end, but we couldn't replicate it. Just to confirm, is this only happening on your phones or on other devices as well?

First up, we suggest that you try logging out and then logging back in to your accounts twice in a row. We know it sounds odd, but this will trigger a sync between your accounts and devices.

If this doesn't do the trick, it's well worth running a clean reinstall of the app to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble.

Lastly, sending us the exact make/model, operating system and Spotify version of your devices would come in handy (if you haven't already).

Let us know how it goes.

I have this issue on my ios app and macos app.

All my friend have the same

Are you using a last version? 🙂

We tried this on our end, but we couldn't replicate it.

The issue still persists for me. If i would have to throw a wild guess: maybe it has something to do with the added ad-tracks (which can’t be skipped/ fast forwarded and have to be 1x). Maybe just correlation but no causality but that all my podcast reset to 1x i experienced for the first time after having one of those ad sequences in a podcast.

@Noahti, would you mind confirming if you've already followed the troubleshooting steps previously mentioned by @Eni? If so and the issue persists, would you mind checking on a different device (using your own account) to see if it makes any difference? If you don't have another one available, you can borrow one from a friend or family member to test it out.

Also, remember to include in your next response the make, model, and OS version of your device, along with the Spotify version you're currently running to continue investigating the case.

Playback speed inconsistent across podcasts

My Question or Issue

The podcast speed for podcasts is inconsistent.

I listen to most podcast at between 2-3x speed depending on speaking cadence of hosts and guests etc.

The problem is that, when listening to a podcast at > 2x speed and any podcast with video ques up next, the speed gets reset to 1x. Any podcast with video as a possibility is also capped at 2x speed even when turning of the video (Which you cannot make it do by default if you are on wifi, which is also a big issue in my opinion).

Is there a way to keep the speed consistent or at least not drop down to 1x, but rather drop to the closest available (usually 2x).

Even better would be if the speed could be remembered on a per podcast basis and video allowed to be disabled for podcasts and speeds above 2x allowed even for these podcasts.

Same issue as the others. If I leave the app open it seems to stay on the previous playback speed but if I close it and re-open then it resets to 1x. Also noticed this start to happen once ad tracks started to go to 1x and not be able to skip. Have tried all steps @Eni mentioned including logging in and out multiple times and multiple clean re-installs of the app. System details below.

@simpro89 @Mej8971 Can you let us know if this happens across all podcasts or is it just with specific ones? Another thing we want to double-check is if it's device- or account-related, so can you check on a different device and with a different account? You can ask a friend or relative to log in their own Spotify account on your device to see if they experience the same thing.

@Mormorbetty It'd be great if you can also take a look at the above and let us know.

Speed memorization

From long time I've been following a podcast, and I used to set 0.9 x of speed. If I switched spotify off or turn off the phone, when I played that podcast it would always memorize to play at 0.9 x speed.

Now from some days the player always set back to play at 1x anytime I switch spotify off or even if I change app and go back to spotify. No matter how many times I set to 0.9x. It always change automatically at 1x.

I didn't change anything on spotify.

What can I do to solve it so that when I set a podcast to a certain speed it memorizes it as usual?

Did spotify changed something lately so that it does not memorize anymore?

I have the same Problem. Very annoying, as I mainly listen to podcasts in the car, and it's tedious and dangerous to have to adjust the speed every time. Since the Bluetooth connection is usually established only after I've already started driving, I often notice it too late. I hope this issue can be fixed quickly, as it seems to affect quite a few people.

We appreciate the details you've included in your post. Just to make sure you've already covered the basics, would you mind confirming if you've already logged out and logged back in twice? If so and the issue persists, could you confirm if you've already performed a clean reinstall of the app on your phone?

Also, it would be great if you could connect a different device to your car as @Dessi previously suggested to continue investigating this behavior.

Had the same problem. Logging out did not solve it. Clearing all application data seems to work. I've got an Android phone.

Sorry. Rechecked, and neither the memory clearing nor a reinstalation worked. It starts at 1.5 (my previous default speed for podcasts), but when the app is restarted, it always falls back to 1.

I tried to uninstall and reinstall spotify: no luck

Tried to log out and log in twice in a row: no luck

Tried to see if the speed stays with other podcasts: no luck

Tried to see if it stays at 2x when it goes to the next episode: yes, it stays at 2x

but if i change app and go back to spotify it resets to 1x. Same if I turn spotify off/on
