My amazon echo dot has been renamed under spotify connect, from "Bedroom" to "a7b5ad73-203e..." How can I change the name back?

I have to same problem since a few days. I have tried to reconnect the device . I have four echoes and two other devices, 2 Echos show Spotify the correct Name, 2 Echos only a Code, not the Name from this device.

I think i have solved this Problem.

I have renamed the Echo to Original, after that i have renamed back to my „Bathroom“

Okay so I don't know if all of these steps are necessary, but this solved it for me:

Unlink Spotify account from Amazon Alexa app
Delete Spotify app from phone
Make sure no other devices running Spotify are turned on / connected
Rename devices in Amazon Alexa app
De-register and then re-register all devices in Amazon Alexa app
Re-link Spotify to Amazon account in Amazon Alexa app
Re-install Spotify app and sign in
That should do it!

This stuff drives me nuts! I also had an echo dot that kept showing up in Spotify with its old name.
So I disabled the skill in Alexa. I logged into spotify on my computer, and go to my Accounts page and clicked the Log Out of Spotify Everywhere button. I then closed it down on my computer. I uninstalled it from my phone, which also gave me the option to delete all files which I did. I then reinstalled it on the phone, enabled the skill, linked accounts, etc. And IT STILL HAD THE SAME DAMN OLD NAME!
So I just went to Alexa on the phone. Disabled the skill again. Renamed the echo dot slightly, and then re-enabled the skill AND THAT'S ALL IT TOOK. Now Spotify sees the new name.

To everyone experiencing issues with the name of their echo devices not appearing correctly in Spotify connect, we recommend the following troubleshooting steps:

Unlink your Spotify and Amazon accounts in the Alexa app.
Perform a clean reinstall of both apps. This page lists the necessary steps for Spotify.
Restart all devices and leave them for a couple of seconds with the power off. This is a simple, but often overlooked step.
Connect your accounts again using the steps here.

That should do the trick. Keep us posted if you have any questions.

This is the correct solution, and worked for me thanks!

Just disable the skill, rename the device, and re-enable the skill again. The Spotify suggested solution doesn’t work.

This isn’t the correct solution. Rcraigbell posted it earlier.

Simply disable the Alexa skill, rename the device in the Alexa app, then re-enable the skill.

hello everyone.
now i have to bring this topic up again. sorry. but i have big problems with naming or identifying my echo-certified speakers with spotify.
in the alexa app all speakers are named with e.g. bedroom living room children's room etc. this naming also works perfectly in amazon music... only in spotify they are all called the same!!!!
namely "polk react" ... there are 4x the soundbar react from polk with integrated alexa. all the tricks that have been explained here do not help with this problem. since the problem only occurs in spotify, the support from polk as well as from amazon has clearly explained to me that the bug is to be found in spotify... can someone help me?

Does anyone else in your household use Spotify? If so, do they experience the same behavior on their device & account?

Since the aforementioned troubleshooting didn't do the trick for you, perhaps it's worth factory resetting the Alexa devices and setting them up again, or resetting your network settings. If possible, try using another network as well to see if that makes a difference - you can ask a friend or a relative to create a mobile hotspot for you to connect to.

If the issue persists, please share the following info:

make, model and OS version of all affected devices
the version of Spotify you're running
a screenshot which shows how things look on your end

hello and thank you for the answer, unfortunately it didn't really help. Spotify still strictly refuses to address my Amazon Alexa speakers in any way. Now there is a new phenomenon: Spotify can no longer find Alexa's speaker groups either. It's starting to get really difficult. Could it really be that Spotify has a pretty nasty bug in its system? I'm not alone with this problem. Help would be really great.

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info shared.

To continue investigating this issue and to make sure we've all bases covered, would you mind confirming if you've already performed a clean reinstall of the app on the device that is not finding the Alexa speakers? If you haven't tried it yet, we'd recommend following the steps mentioned in this article to see if it makes any difference.

It would also be great if you could have someone log in with their account on your device - such as a friend or a family member, to see if the speaker appears listed there as an available device or not.

Lastly, don't forget to include in your next response the make, model and OS version of your device, along with the Spotify version you're currently running as @Yordan previously requested.

We'll be waiting for your response.

hi again thanks for the quick reply, no none of the procedures described again help me with my problem. The fact is that all the names that I assign to my speakers in the Alexa app to identify them in the various rooms are not recognized by Spotify via Spotify connect. The only group that is recognized is the complete group everywhere, which is created by Alexa by default. Curiously, however, this is displayed in a different network in Spotify, which is strange because I don't have different networks. All my speakers are registered on the same network. You wanted the version of my iOS: 18.4.1

My Spotify version seems to be the absolute latest: 9.0.42.587
Can you please help me? There must be some solution to this problem. Thank you very much

Could you let us know if this behavior persist on another device or only on your iPhone?

To continue investigating, since this behavior could also be related to the network connection, would you mind using a different Wi-Fi network to see if it makes any difference? You could also change the DNS settings of your router to 8.8.8.8.

Hi Spotify Support,

I'm reaching out again regarding a persistent issue that significantly impacts my user experience with Spotify Connect and multiple Polk React speakers (Alexa-enabled) in my home.

This is now the third time I’m contacting support, and each time I’ve received the exact same generic response: reinstall the app, update the firmware, restart devices, etc. I’ve followed all of these steps multiple times, yet the problem remains. At this point, I honestly don’t feel taken seriously as a customer.

Let me explain the issue clearly and in full detail:

🏠My Setup:

5x Polk React smart speakers, each placed in a different room
All connected via the Alexa app and individually named (e.g., Bedroom, Kitchen, Living Room)
In the Alexa app and Amazon Music, the names are correctly displayed and usable
Multi-room groups are also set up and work in the Alexa environment

However, when I open Spotify and use Spotify Connect, all speakers show up as “Polk React” — their default device name — with no distinction, making it impossible to identify which speaker is which.

✅What I’ve already done (thoroughly):

Renamed speakers in Alexa multiple times
Created and tested different multi-room groups
Verified correct naming in other apps (Amazon Music, Alexa)
Unlinked and relinked the Spotify account in Alexa
Reinstalled the Spotify and Alexa apps multiple times
Ensured all firmware and apps are fully updated
Rebooted all devices and my router

In addition:

I tested this behavior across three separate iOS devices in our household – all show the exact same issue
To rule out network-related causes, I even set up a completely separate test network with a different Fritzbox router — same result

This clearly proves the issue is not due to my home setup, hardware, or local network.

❌The real problem:

Spotify Connect seems to ignore the custom names set in the Alexa app, instead displaying the generic internal device name ("Polk React") for all five speakers. This makes Spotify Connect unusable for selecting the correct speaker.

Multi-room groups — which could serve as a workaround — are only sometimes shown in Spotify and cannot be created with single speakers.

💰As a paying customer...

I’m subscribed to Spotify Premium and expect full compatibility with Alexa devices, as advertised. Instead, I'm experiencing a critical usability issue — with no effective support or solution after multiple attempts.

🙏My request:

Please escalate this issue to your technical team or product team. It is not a user error, and it cannot be resolved by reinstalling the app or resetting devices.

Spotify Connect should either:

Reflect the custom speaker names from the Alexa ecosystem
or
Allow users to rename or label speakers directly within Spotify

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I truly hope this time I’ll receive more than just the usual automated troubleshooting checklist — and that the issue will finally be acknowledged and investigated properly.

It's quite a bit of troubleshooting we've been through. We understand where you're coming from, and we appreciate your comments on the matter.

We've located this thread in which other users were experiencing this same issue. We'd recommend you try out what was mentioned there, as it seems that the solution worked for all the users that commented there.

If issues persist, the final process that we can suggest is a factory reset of all your speakers. This might fix some damaged processes that could be interfering with the proper connection with the app, but we know that this process will erase all data from your device, so it's optional if you want to do it.
