[Web Player] Doesn't work for Brave browser

My Question or Issue

The web player doesn't work for the Brave browser. Whenever you go to the open.spotify.com web page it asks you to visit the support site and there's no instructions there for Brave.

Hey @mos182

Looking at the Github thread it's the missing/inactive Widevine plugin that's causing that. Did you get the web player to work in your browser?

The problem is not Widevine as other sites that require it play ok.

There is some restriction I guess based on the user agent or other things that block the Brave browser. Technically there should be no problem to enable it just needs to be white listed I guess.

Here is a thread on github that suggest that the issue is on your side

It should be quite easy to replicate, just install Brave and try to open the web player.

Try in a private window in Brave then it works. But I'm also experiencing weird issues with a normal window, but works fine in a private window.

My Question or Issue

I use Spotify on my phone all the time. It works pretty well.

But when i try to use it on Brave Browser on my laptop, i click on a song, it plays for a split second, and then it skips through about a dozen songs, finally coming to rest on some random song from another playlist.

I know there is an app, and it works fine on my laptop, but i prefer the browser version.

I have also tried clearing my data cache, nothing.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community and welcome.

Taking into account that the behavior just happens on the Web Player, we'd recommend trying on a different browser (such as Google Chrome) to see if it makes any difference.

Also, since this could be related to the network connection, make sure that your Brave Browser doesn't have any active VPN. If so, we'd recommend turning it off to see if the issue persists.

Lastly, we'd also suggest trying with a different Wi-Fi connection. If you don't have another one, you can use a mobile data hotspot to test it.

Spotify does indeed work on MS Edge, but will not work on Brave.

The console shows 404 errors.

Thanks for the reply.

It's important to note that while the web player can work on all manner of browsers, the Brave browser isn't officially supported, therefore we cannot guarantee its functionality. Most likely the various security and privacy features it has are preventing proper server communication and the errors in your logs could suggest that.

You can find more info here on the supported browsers for the web player, as well as some suggested troubleshooting steps.
