Hello,

I'm using a filtering DNS to block some domain on my child's phone.

I want to block also video on Spotify and I try to identify domain of CDN linked to video streaming.

Where can I find a list of domains used by purpose?

Like image-cdn-ak.spotifycdn.com

Test it yourself on your phone with a variety of video content such as interviews and video podcasts.

My allowlist is 38 hostnames.

FYI for anyone doing IP-based blocking, some Spotify video services are hosted on the same IP addresses as Spotify non-video services.

This workaround worked for me well. Now I realised that it is only working in one account of our family subscription. It does not work in a newer account which is also part of my Spotify Family subscription. It is NOT related to the device but to the account. I have tested it with the two accounts on the same device. Maybe Spotify uses different adresses for videos in newer accounts?
Does anyone experience the same? Is there a solution?

Unfortunately I also had to add the image cdn to the blocklist. This means album art gets blocked too, but only after I added this the video podcasts stopped loading.

Here is my list. Note that the + on the first line is a wildcard, so you may need to modify this depending on which adblocking software you are using.

I use https://cleanbrowsing.org/ and it works pretty fine.

It's also easy to identify all domains used and the one related to Spotify.

EnzoV, I block domains using the DNS server AdguardHome in OpenWRT, and I use ipban (also in OpenWRT) to prevent network access to alternate DNS servers (multiple methods) because access would allow bypassing the filtering. There are other DNS servers, both local and cloud-based, such as OpenDNS. (By default OpenDNS doesn't filter much, but you can set it up by category or by hostname.)

do you found a solution for this? i've the exact same problem: family subscription videos are blocked for me and miy wive but nit for my kid. And thats the whole thing about: blocking videos for my kid.

edit:

i did some live logging and saw another domain. so i've added http://region-eng-scdn.cdn-gslb.spotify.com/ to my blocklist and it seems that blocking is working now for my kid too. i'll monitor it.

So can I hire one of you to do this for me? My boys admitted viewing inappropriate stuff on Spotify. So irritating when I have all the explicit stuff turned off.

Hey everyone,

Good news! In select markets you can now create or convert an existing account into a Managed Account with the Family Plan.

This is a new account type for kids that allows the plan manager to turn off videos and block certain songs and artists.

Managed accounts are uselss since radio plays are blocked and Spotify sells this "product" as music only but (our and all friends of our kids) listen to 95% radio plays. So we still need give them full accounts and block those nasty videos.

I have AdGuard on my homeassistant, and there's an option for it, when listing services to block, you can choose to block "Spotify" or "Spotify Video".
I have blocked "Spotify Video", and it's doing it!
