topic Inquiry regarding Spotify SDK/API integration for a physical-digital hybrid product in Spotify for Developers

Dear Spotify Developer Support Team,

I am developing a hybrid board game project that aims to bridge physical social interaction with digital music experiences.

Our application is designed as a companion tool for a physical board game. Its primary function is to act as a specialized "remote controller" for the Spotify app already installed on the user's device. The goal is to allow players to trigger specific tracks or timestamps through our interface to complement the physical gameplay.

We are aware of the Developer Terms regarding "Trivia/Quiz" applications. However, since our product's value and revenue are derived from physical components (game board, tokens, and hardware) and not from the music streaming itself, we would like to clarify:

Does the "Trivia" restriction apply to applications where the game logic and monetization are tied to a physical product, with the App acting merely as a playback controller for the user's own Spotify account?

Are there specific requirements or a partnership tier for hardware/physical game developers who wish to ensure long-term stability for their users via Spotify SDK?

We believer this will drive engagement and encourage Spotify Premium usage among our players.

I look forward to your guidance on how to ensure our integration remains fully compliant with your latest policies.

Best regards,

Miguel

Hey @Ximpa11, Unfortunately, applications that incorporate Spotify Content into trivia, quiz, or game functionality, regardless of whether the main value comes from a physical product do not meet Spotify’s Developer Terms of Use. This applies even if your app acts only as a playback controller for the user’s own Spotify account. Hope this clarifies things.
