Hello Spotify Developer Support Team,

My name is Šimon Vyskočil, and I am an independent developer currently building a mobile application that relies directly on the Spotify Web API. The core functionality of the application is built entirely on the use of the Spotify Web API.

Before proceeding further with development and potential public release, I would like to clarify the current requirements and limitations for applications that are fundamentally built on Spotify API functionality.

My application does not stream, download, redistribute, or modify Spotify content in any way. It only accesses user-authorized data through the official OAuth flow and operates strictly within the scope of the permissions granted by the user.

I would like to confirm:

Under what conditions an independent developer can publicly release an application that relies on Spotify Web API functionality.
Whether commercial monetization (e.g., paid app or subscription model) is permitted for such applications.
What the current pathway is for moving from Development Mode to wider public availability, especially for solo developers who are not operating as a registered company.

My goal is to ensure full compliance with Spotify’s Developer Terms and Developer Policy before proceeding.

Thank you again for your detailed and helpful explanation — I truly appreciate the clarity.
After reviewing the official Spotify Web API documentation on quota modes <>, I came across a section stating that as of May 15th, 2025, quota extension requests are only accepted from legally registered organizations (not individuals), and that applicants must meet certain requirements such as operating a launched service and maintaining at least 250k MAUs. I also noticed in the Partner Application form <> the following statement: “Please note that at this time, Spotify only accepts applications from organizations (not individuals). To ensure your company is able to meet the criteria, please review the implementation requirements outlined below before submitting your application. Please note that we only accept applications sent from your company email.”
This raised an important question for me.
As an independent developer planning to eventually release my app to a wider public audience (and potentially monetize it), would it still be possible to move from development mode to extended quota mode under the current policy? Or does this effectively mean that individual developers are now limited to development mode unless they establish a registered business entity that meets those scale requirements? Additionally, could you please let me know if there is a specific process or resource that explains how a solo developer can apply for extended quota access, or where I can find the correct way to submit such a request?
I want to make sure I fully understand the current pathway before investing further into preparing the app for a broader release.
