If this is an option to be enabled, that would be amazing, since we are in the same case. Adopt the quotas in dev mode is not an issue, but not have the Oauth is the big issue tbh !

My Question or Issue

I am requesting standard Production OAuth access for my application so it can move out of Development Mode.

I am NOT requesting Extended Quota or high-scale access.

This is an early-stage platform with a small number of curators and hosts who need to authenticate via Spotify OAuth. The app is not consumer-facing at scale and does not require elevated rate limits.

Please advise on the requirements to approve Production OAuth access.

Under the latest Spotify Developer Platform terms (announced February 6th, 2026), early-stage apps in Development Mode are limited to 5 authorized users per Client ID, and users must have Spotify Premium account.

Standard Production OAuth access (allowing more users and broader distribution) is not automatically available.

Moving out of Development Mode requires meeting compliance and review requirements, and is generally intended for apps that are ready for broader distribution. You can read more about this here:

@thePodfather - If I'm reading this right, an app developer cannot move a development app with less than 5 users into production (extended quota) unless they are:

Established Business Entity (legally registered business or organisation)

Operating an active, and Launched Service

Maintaining a minimum of active users (at least 250k MAUs)

How would one ever acquire > 250K MAUs if it's not possible to open the app to more than 5 users? Can solo developers still launch an app to the general public without being en established business and having > 250K MAUs?

But that's the exact point, and just correcting something that you wrote, the account that create the app need to be premium the managed accounts dont need to be, the fact that we can't put more people on is that is not going to allow to anyone anymore reach the goal to ask for extension of quota, although we can for sure create lines and batch processing to handle the limitations of quotas for apps in dev mode ( not so easily handled but doable ) the fact that we cant embrace more than 5 testers for the app is really a sign that Spotify dont want developers here anymore unless they are companies or huge already apps, so this is unfair and the fact that we are asking to be able to add more users tests, dont lead spotify backend to any issues, since if we break the call quota or daily call quota we are going to receive the retry after header and all calls are going to be 403, so not have an oauth enabled to receive more people to dream with the 250K MAU is really impossible, and we are pleading some in the between place, like an indie quota, to we keep working in the behalf of our users and making them keep their listenings inside Spotify instead of with all this changes force them to go to another service, it's more than a plead is almost like a business proposal that most of the beneficiary is going to be Spotify it self, please consider an indie quota, something like can handle 2k, 3k this is 1% of the extended quota, ask for even the developer documentation as is required for extended quota now, ask for the blue prints of the project, ask whatever Spotify thinks it covers it's legal bases on the indie quota, just dont say that Spotify wants us here to keep developing with the actual restrictions and with not leading to we be able to continue, again just fairness or just someone from your side authorized just post the true that Spotify dont want indie developers anymore. And if this be the reply, it's just sad and out of perspective since any back garden created business categorize users in quotas with entry and higher points so dont have in the between quotas shows a total lack of compliance with what is adopted from every serious business around the World in all fronts, not just tech... We are going to keep pleading until we receive our plead or the truth that Spotify dont want us here anymore and either dont give authorization to the "spokermans" to say so or it's afraid to much to put the face to slap saying that now it's just a business orientated company that dont care to who reach with small numbers, and after reading all that i'm typing it's starting to really be difficult to know what is more sad about everything that is taking place and I'm not even going to enter that the ANA's leakage was the source of all this, since everyone knows that this is what all the latests moves are about. Respectfully and sincerely wanting to we all reach an agreement like gentlemen. best regards and cheers from BRazil !

This is just no good! I need access to playlist items (tracks) for public playlists, genres and popularity for my app to function! Why have you removed so much and with such short notice, then set the extended quota requirements way beyond impossible for small web apps! I don't train AI, or even use AI at all currently on my platform! I'm going to be forced to web scrape the data as there's no options once it's gone and I'm not paying $250 per month to my competitor as a middle man to route my traffic through their extended quota API....... how are the ethics acceptable?
