topic Advice on Extended API Use Application for a New App in Spotify for Developers

Hello,

I am looking for advice from developers who have experience with Spotify’s Extended API Use application process.

Over the past three years I built a music focused app and it reached a stable production build in February 2026. The product is designed to support music discovery and encourage users to listen through Spotify.

Some of the features rely on Spotify data such as listening history and library information, which appear to require Extended Access approval.

From the documentation it seems applications are often expected to already have significant scale before being considered. As an independent developer preparing to launch, that creates a difficult situation where some of the most valuable features depend on access that may only be available later.

If anyone has experience with this process I would appreciate hearing about it. I am especially interested in learning whether developers have been able to obtain extended access early, or if there are recommended approaches for building products within the standard API limitations.

The goal of the app is to help users discover music and ultimately drive listening activity back to Spotify.

Thank you for any guidance.
