Renew with gift card?

Last year, I bought a gift card for someone and they used it to begin a new premium subscription. Can they use another gift card to renew that same subscription or do they have to renew using their credit card instead? We would like to keep the same account active so we do not lose the playlists. Thank you!

They can simply redeem another Gift Card on the account: https://spotify.com/redeem.

Also, keep in mind that, when losing Premium, you keep your playlists and saved music when your account is free. You can also still log in and play with ads.
