i tried to use a 12 month gift card but i had to end my premium monthly subscription first and it wouldn’t let me use the gift card because i used it then ended the premium and tried to put it back in??? please help

The gift card starts on your plan’s next payment date - or immediately if you’ve upgraded from a free account.

It'd be best to first check your account page under "Receipts" to find out if the gift card was activated successfully and exactly how much Premium time a certain gift card has activated. Here is a link for this.

Also on your account page you can see when exactly the activated Premium time will expire.
