My Question or Issue

good evening all .

i have recently purchased spotify premium, as i found it was more lovely to listen to no ads while studying ... however i have a new problem .

previously on the free version of spotify, i had my region changed to japan as i frequently travel there, and most of the music i listen to is there, including my favourite song ever.

additionally, the adverts for spotify premium had stated that you were able to listen to music from anywhere in the world without changing your location or anything, so i assumed that my move to a premium plan would not alter/remove the discographies that i was able to listen to on spotify.

clearly, i was wrong. the only way for me to change my region on spotify premium is to pay using a payment method that was in the desired country you would like to change your location to. in my case, this is japan ... however, i mainly reside in au and my bank details (for all my cards/bank accounts etc) are for au banks only.

does this mean that for me to listen to my most favourite song ever, i would either

a) have to open a jp bank account ?? (way too much of a hassle), or

b) cancel my spotify premium and just deal with the ads.

further more, i have tried to change my billing location to japan and even without adding any details in yet (i was planning to test it with the details of a relative in japan), it wont let me, saying im 'not eligible for this plan' (i have the premium individual plan). this is very annoying. i have seen others have the same issue, but even by using incognito browsers, different wifi networks, different devices, multiple vpns, and the 'log out everywhere' method, i have had no improvement on this issue.

i will not make a new account, so please do not recommend me to do this. i will not ever make a new account.

im close to some really really important exams, so i'd prefer no ads while listening to music, but also i really need to be able to listen to my favourite song on repeat 247 to get through these exams.

to be honest, i am really really disappointed 😞

would the only way to fix my favourite-song-deficiency be to cancel my subscription and return to free spotify?

any assistance is greatly appreciated 🙂

Content availability is based on the country setting set within the account. Some artists and tracks are currently not available (or are available in one country and not in another).

Reasons for this vary: Agreements with artists or labels may be ongoing or can’t be reached, or ownership of rights can change hands.

If you can’t find something you’re looking for now, it may appear (or reappear) soon.

Lastly, if you'd like to update your country setting to Japan, you'll need a payment method that's been issued there.
