Gift card wont redeem

Have had spotify premium for years. Always buy the annual gift card. Bought a gift card again to renew for the year. And it wont let me redeem the $99 gift card. Error states “you cant apply this premium code to your account. This is likely because you have an existing premium subscription that cannot be combined with a premium code.”
my account has not had any discounts ever. My renewal date is in a couple days. I paid for the gift card and i want to be able to use it. This has never happened before and i dont see this happening to anyone else in a thread or post online anywhere.
what am i supposed to do?

Thanks for coming to the Community.

I recommend heading here to check if you have any recurring payment method (e.g. PayPal or Credit Card) associated with your plan here.

If you do, please click on the "Cancel plan" button on that page. Doing this will re-sync some things backstage and you won't lose any of the remaining Premium time on your account.

Once that's done, you can try redeeming the Gift Card again here.
