Risk if overcharging when changing payment method

I have a premium subscription, and I am based in the UK. Payments have previously been made via mobile phone contract, the most recent payment was made 29th July 2026. Spotify prompted me to change my payment method before 5th August, to ensure continued access to Premium services, however the next payment is due on the 11th August. If this happened, I believe I would be overcharged - is there a way to avoid this happening? Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

Hey @vikta76er

If you change payment methods you will not get charged at that moment. The system will wait until your payment date arrives.

If you want to change that date, it's better to wait until your subscription expires to update the info, but you will lose all your downloads, and Premium features that way, which may be inconvenient.

You can update your payment details before 5 August simply replaces your billing method for future billing dates, so you won't be charged immediately. Spotify will only charge your new payment method on your renewal date (in your case, 11 August), which means that your mobile payment would cover your service through that date. There's more information about billing dates here.

However, since your payments are being handled with your mobile provider I'd recommend reaching out to them for more information about this as they handle everything payments related.
