Musixmatch SUCKS

Lately I've been noticing that the lyrics to songs I listen to are either not the right lyrics or are missing. Why did Spotify switch from Genius to Musixmatch? Musixmatch is clearly inferior to Genius since the latter has lyrics for way more songs on their website, more contributors and correct lyrics. I tried to edit a song's lyrics on Musixmatch and it put me through a long and unnecessary contributor boot camp. Musixmatch doesn't abide their own rules either. Musixmatch requires their users to type out every single refrain however "Who Ya Gonna Shoot Wit That" lyrics say "Chorus + J-Dee (line 4)". Switch back to Genius asap!!

When Spotify was partnered with Genius, they didn't actually show lyrics. The "behind the lyrics" content was actually shown. To my knowledge, Genius does not have a synced-lyrics functionality, which is why most music services use Musixmatch (Apple Music, Amazon Music, TIDAL, and Google, among others. See this.)

I do agree that Genius usually provides a better and more consistent lyrics experience, as well as better editing formats and guidelines. I also agree that Musixmatch's website is not great, and the amount of missing or incorrect lyrics (with no way to edit) is immense.

I'm sorry that I'm unable to provide a better answer at this time. If you would like, you can submit an Idea to the Idea Exchange to encourage Spotify to find a better lyrics provider.
