Child friendly adverts / setting?

I am keen to use Spotify at home, but I have children who are 1 year and 3 years old.

Some of the adverts that play are not suitable for them, but play all day long (for example the advert for "Demons" movie which mentions a mother being possessed and murdering her family would give my 3 year nightmares, or worse.

I don't mind listening to the ads, but is there a way of making sure that the adverts that are played are age appropiate using an account setting?

Obviously I know I could pay for a subscription, but I don't need the additional functionality that this provides at the moment.

Many thanks

Rob

By setting your date of birth to be under 16, you would hear child friendly adverts, in theory. But this throws up the risk of causing some issues if we need to ask you for a date of birth for security reasons.

Plus, children 12 years old or younger are no longer allowed to use Spotify anyway due to the fact that they are not allowed to have a Facebook account.

I agree. Something needs to be done to better target the intended audience for commercials. I had Christian praise music playing for my 8 year old to go to sleep to and this commercial comes on talking about sex and "turning her on". WTH? This is not ok with me. Paying for a subscription was an option I was considering but I will not support a company that does not respect protecting children from this stuff. My kid has some major anxiety already and hearing about demons, etc. would send him into therapy. PLEASE Spotify, give us a break here!

@SteveBrammer, yeah, but I don't want my 13 or 15 year old having to listen to condom ads. I'm 42 and I don't want to hear them.

Seconded... again. This is a serious issue, long overdue for a solution. And by solution, I don't mean 'pay for a subscription.' Because I will not reward this offense with ANYTHING, let alone money.

I want to bump this thread:

I just had my nephew over, played some music over Spotify when the music got paused to play some ad for an "Asylum"-sth movie.
I was over in the kitchen when I heard the scream (of the ad) and ran over to see my nephew (2 1/2 years old) being visibly startled by it. The ad goes on in a very creepy way and it took me a bit to get over to the computer and mute it.

It can not be that such 'horror' adds are being played: the argument that Spotify is not for children under 13 because you can't have a Facebook a account if you're younger is nonsense; what if I have an account and a child under 13 hears it?
That's what happened to me today and what surely has happened to others as well.

Please add an option to replace those ads by something more adapted (I actually don't want to hear those kind of adds neither) if the user wishes so.
Thank you in advance.

I agree, I am very disappointed with Spotify's negligence in selecting advertisements. My account has started playing inappropriate and explicit ads relating to sex, alcohol and degradation of women. I had hoped that there was a way for me to block this content without falsifying my age through my Facebook login or rewarding this company with a paid subscription. I will not do this and I intend to leave my account dormant until Spotify changes their ad policies. Good thing I still have my Pandora account.

Hello,

I will try to email them to see what they can do. Not long after I contacted Pandora, they gave this option for their settings (so people don't have to falsify birthdays)
