Gift card: my code is invalid

I have just (30 minutes ago) bought a gift card at a local Albert Heijn (supermarket) worth €10, 1 month of Spotify premium. However, when I try to activate my card, it gives me the following error notification:

De Premium-code die je hebt opgegeven is ongeldig. Controleer of je de code correct hebt ingevoerd. (The premium-code you have submitted is invalid. Check whether you have submitted the code correctly).

I have not used the card before. Can anyone please tell me what I should do?

Generally with cards like this, they would need to be "activated" at the till when you buy them. It could be that they haven't done it this time, so you could pop back and ask them to activate it there.
