Generation gape (typo there ;)).

Well, I'm sure that would be fine, as long as it wasn't to the entire school at once, and certainly not at public meetings etc.

Just remember that unless you have a paid subscription they will all hear the adverts 😛

Is it legal to play music from Spotify via school audio system (loudspeakers) during breaks? It's non-commercial but is it personal?

Hey! Welcome to the community 🙂

I don't think anyone is going to stop you, where would we be if our friends couldn't join in with our music listening!

Public playback of Spotify content is a bit of a grey area, but if it is just your friends then I wouldn't worry about it! If its to the whole school, then that might be more of an issue.

As long as it is non-commercial, and it is only you using your account (ie. your account is not being shared by mutliple people on their own devices) between just your group of friends then I would say you are good to go! 🙂

EDIT: Reading your post again, if you are talking about to the whole school over an audio system, then I don't think that would count as personal usage. As I said before, public playback of Spotify content is not strictly allowed due to licensing.

Actually I'm a teacher 🙂

I want to prevent my students from using illegal sources when they play music in school (it's audible in some parts of the school building, not everywhere, to be precise) that's why I'd like to know if it is ok to let them use their own devices and their Spotify accounts to share the music with school friends. The idea of the school radio collapsed when they learned that only legal CDs can be used as a source of music because they don't have CDs! They don't want to use mine either - generation gape!
