What's "a very long time"? What quality setting and over what type of connection? A bit more info will help nail the issue you're experiencing.

i have a playlist, and when i click on available offline, the songs don't download, it comes up after ten minutes saying, sync has been paused. this just repeats over and over again.
and im using it over wifi.

What type of device are you syncing to?

Is your device entering a low power state (such as turning off the screen) when this happens?
