Then why can't I switch on offline mode or save playlists for offline playback on my iPhone?

As it stands you haven't synced your iPhone (Or any device) yet.

Just follow the steps here to sync the device and listen to music in Offline Mode.

Ok, thats a good start, but I used to be able to do this on my iPhone without having to manage it through my computer....? I cannot slide the 'Available offline' switch....

When you are doing it is it opening the menu?

Personally, I find it very difficult to operate the slider on iOS without triggering the menu 😛
