Surely there is a better way.... anyone...? Thanks

Hi @Kirsten13,

Welcome to the Spotify Community!

When this occurs, is it always the same playlist/artist, or does it say "Playing recommended songs for you" at the top of the Now Playing View? Since you mentioned you have a Samsung, it's worth checking if you have any routines set up that may be causing this.

Also, do you have any apps linked to your Spotify account here? If so, I'd recommend removing them to see if that helps. You can always reconnect them again if you want to. Something else you can try is logging out everywhere to ensure this isn't caused by another device you're logged in.

Let us know how it goes. Cheers 🤘

I've had the same problem for at least the past year or two. I have autoplay off, as you can see here:

Yesterday, I was listening to a subtle lo-fi album while working. When it ended, I was suddenly treated to explosions and yelling when a podcast came on after. The above screenshot is what my settings showed when that happened.

It has been pretty normal for Spotify to do this for at least a year or two. I've see quite a few other posts while searching broadly for "autoplay,"many describe problems similar to mine, but none with a worthwhile solution in the threads.

Thanks for reaching out.

The Autoplay feature wouldn't start podcasts after playing music so this is likely something else. Do you remember what you listened to before the lo-fi album? Have you added anything to your queue? How does the queue look like when this happens?

Once we're able to reliably replicate the issue it will be easier to compile a report and, hopefully, get it fixed, so please provide as many details as possible.

Why would it matter what podcast played? Seems like an irrelevant question.

Songs also frequently shuffle in after a playlist is over, again with
autoplay off. Do you need to know those, too?

Either way, content continues to play when autoplay is off periodically.
Which content plays is not the question.

Thanks for your reply here and welcome.

Can you send us a video recording of what you are seeing on your side? You can attach it in your next reply in mp4 format, or you can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public, so we can visualize it. Make sure we can see the Autoplay setting off and what happens when a podcast episode finishes.

Meanwhile, we suggest you set up a timer within the app, so the playback stops once the episode you're listening to finishes. To do it, go to the Now playing view while playing the episode. At the bottom-right, you'll see a clock icon. Tap it and you'll see the option End of episode, which will stop the playback once the episode finishes.

We'll be on the lookout!

Hey folks,

Apologies for the radio silence.

As mentioned here, when you start an episode from the podcast's page, Home or from the New Episodes/Your Episodes playlists in the mobile app, the rest of the episodes from this show/playlist get added to the queue, i.e. the next one will play after the current episode is finished.

The Autoplay setting is meant for cases where you reach the end of the current playlist/episode list and want/don't want recommended content playing afterwards. With music, this also includes any tracks that start after playing something from the search results.

With this in mind, please let us know if you think that what you're experiencing on your end is not expected, provide as many details as possible (a short video would be best) and share your device model, OS version and Spotify version, so we can investigate further.

Cheers,

The problem is that when you have played an episode and it has finished, then you play a new episode and let's say you listen to it half way to take a break, when you start the app again it sometimes suddenly jump to an older episode. Even if I have marked it as played in the list. This issue been there all the time. So it is not reliable. .Also there are monthly app upgrades on my Samsung, the problem seem to repeat itself .
.

Thanks for your reply and for the info shared.

We recommend checking for anything suspicious on your Account Overview page and removing all apps connected to your account. If you notice anything suspicious you can remove it with the REMOVE ACCESS button. You can easily reconnect the apps that you use whenever you want.

On another note, it'd be awesome if you could share with us any troubleshooting steps you've tried so far, that way we can avoid repeating any steps. We'd like further info to better understand what exactly happens on your side:

The exact Spotify version you're running on your side.

A video recording of this behavior. You can attach it in your next reply in mp4 format, or upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and make it public.

Does this happen if you use a different account on the affected device? You can ask for the account of a relative or a friend to open and check.

We'll be around.

I reported the same problem 2 years ago and it is still the same, when I listen to the latest episode in a series, and it finoshes, it just starts to play an older episode I finished several days ago. What a useless app!

Hey @Brohannes & @startelver,

Thanks for posting in this thread!

Just to check, does this happen on the mobile app and with episodes from the same podcast? If so, this is something our tech folks are currently looking into. Feel free to have a look at this thread for more details. You can also leave a comment there, should it be what you're experiencing as well.

If your issue is different, however, it would be great to know a bit more on what's happening from your end. The info requested earlier by @AlejaR in this reply would be helpful.

Cheers!

Yes mobile app, and yes episodes from the same podcast

At least you are aware of it, but seems there are no simple fix
.
