a few weeks ago i got the option to select a genre specific discover weekly playlist but ive lost the ability to do so

We can confirm that this feature is still being tested. At Spotify, we're often testing new features and improvements, that's why you may have something in the app that other users don't or vice versa, or have a feature to try temporarily. In this case, we suggest to keep the app always updated so you don't miss out on any new features and improvements.

I received an email from Spotify how I can customize the Discover Weekly playlist but there is NO way to do it.

Could you give us some more info about this email that you received? Did it include any details of what exactly you could customize about Discover Weekly and was it about the genres?

You can even send us a screenshot (only make sure no sensitive info is visible such as email addresse(s). You can attach it via the Insert Image option in the post editor.

It's worth mentioning that legitimate emails from us should end in “@spotify.com”.

We're here if you need help with anything else in the meantime.

Recently when I checked out Discover Weekly after ages (only suggests the genres I listen to most, but I just find new ones using song radios), and saw that I could pick which music genre the playlist should have, based on the ones I listen to most.

I thought it was super cool, as I like a few different genres, and this new feature would let me listen to actually randomly suggested songs of the picked genre, rather than a mix of close ones or already heard enough times which the song radios give (playlist based on the styles from 1 song).

Today when I chose to give it a try, the feature was gone. Please bring it back, it would be so useful.

It seems to be missing on the PC-application though (I got a new install this morning)?

Thanks for reaching out on the Community! Happy to hear you're enjoying the Discover Weekly features 🙂

Genres in Discover Weekly are currently only available on the mobile app, which is why the option doesn't appear on your PC. If you select a genre, however, that tracklist will be represented across your devices.

Just keep in mind that as the playlist resets every Monday, your Discover Weekly genres and any selections you've made will reset as well.

it's not on pc, mobile only. Maybe you tried to use it on pc.

I found a "workaround" of sorts. Select the genre on mobile and reload the list on PC and it will have changed to the genre you selected on the mobile device.

I really love this function! We need it on desktop aswell. Plus a feature that show's all previous discover weekly's.

I've really gotta question why this feature is still getting removed for some people. I just had it removed in the middle of listening to it. I've used it every week for months and it's just gone now? I don't get it

Same here! I used Spotify on my phone pretty much exclusively and I had the option for multiple Discover Weekly playlists last week; came back today and it's no longer there. I'm a Premium user, have been for literal years, and am not due to be billed for another week, so it's nothing to do with my subscription. Tried reopening the app and restarting my phone... Nothing. What's going on here?

Thank you for joining the thread and sorry for the late response.

Taking into account that the Discover Weekly playlist is based on your recently played songs, it's possible that the system may not have enough data to properly assign the genre tags. So in this case, we'd first recommend listening to different genres during the week to see if the system can assign them on the next refresh.

@bigbananadealer, if it happened in the middle of your listening session, it's possible that the playlist was refreshed right at that time by coincidence.

So if the issue persists on the next refresh, let us know to continue investigating it internally.

I'm having the same problem. The tabs disappeared midweek last week (Tues AM) but the playlist remained stuck on one of the genre specific tabs. It updated Monday but tabs still missing.

I'm still having the issue this week. I really don't think the issue can be not listening to enough music; I listen to Spotify pretty much daily and make a habit of using song radio to discover new tracks, so I really can't think how the problem can be my end. I'm reluctant to reinstall to see if it fixes it because of the sheer amount of time and data that will be needed to redownload all the offline files I'm keeping, and that's to say nothing of resyncing local files with my PC - especially as I'm not sure it'll even serve to fix it. Very confused and more than a little upset, as this was a feature I really got a lot of mileage out of.

I have the opposite situation from what defdac describes, the phone app is stuck on whatever I have chosen on my computer, which is impractical as I don't always bring it.

Thanks for posting and sharing your feedback!

We're constantly testing new features to improve the app, which means some of you may see genres in your Discover Weekly playlist in the desktop app, while others see them on mobile or in both apps.

@nouveriantechno since what you've selected on desktop doesn't reflect on mobile, try logging out and back in on both devices to resync your data. If that doesn't work, a clean reinstall of the app can help clear out any corrupted cache which can cause different performance issues.

Hope this info helps clear things up and we're just a post away if any other questions come up.
