songs labeled explicit are still playing as censored

In 2026, this is still an issue; several songs that are marked with an E are censored anyway. I have contacted Spotify several times, but they still haven’t come back with a solution.

Does anyone have a solution to this issue?

Thanks for reaching out. We've moved you out into a separate thread so we can assist you further, since the original thread was outdated.

Can you send us the links or URIs of some of the songs that have this issue? When you play these tracks on desktop and you open the respective album, do you see the option to view different versions of it? Look for a drop down menu in the bottom right of the song list.

Let us know so we can look into this further.

Thanks for the reply.

I did some digging and thankfully was able to find one song that has this behaviour:

spotify:track:3ltqIDgVV4QSNDQPQ4y5kr:small

Now, there isn't really a technical issue that can cause something like this. The explicit filter itself doesn't alter the songs, it just makes it so tracks marked as explicit don't appear. What you hear in the app is whatever was provided to us by the owners of the music, so this seems to be a case where even though this song is marked as explicit, it's actually the clean version.

We're going to forward this song to the right team so that it can be reported. In the meantime, if you notice any specific tracks that have this exact behaviour as well, let us know and provide us the exact URIs of the songs in question.

hello!! i have exactly the same issue. it has happened to certain songs by certain artists and not with others. the one i can remember is "ханнамонтана" by poshlaya molly. i have explicit content allowed and the song is even marked as such. thank you!

Hello!

I am having this issue on the Spotify Desktop App - I went to Mac Miller's artist profile, put it on shuffle and hit the green play button. Songs that I know are explicit are being censored, however, when I click on these songs to double-check, it takes me to the album but does not state that the song itself is playing (song name isn't in green, there's no play/pause button next to the song name).

This has happened on:

Break the Law (GO:OD AM, not the remaster)

In The Bag (GO:OD AM, remaster)

and Gees (feat ScHoolboy Q).

I've noticed that if you select a song from an Artists Page, this will play a censored version rather than the original. The biggest example of that I have is Limp Bizkit's Making Love to Morgan Wallen - if you select this from the Lastest/Newest Release option, it'll play the censored version. If you navigate to Albums/Singles and play the same song from there, it'll play the original.

I've triple-checked, and I have allow explicit content set to yes.

This is some odd behaviour indeed. Thanks for letting us know 🙂

So that we can take a better look at what's going on here, could you send us a video recording of what you're seeing on your end? If the file is too big to attach here, you can send us a link to an upload in e.g. Google Drive or YouTube (as an unlisted video). Just make sure access is set to "anyone with the link".

And as mentioned by @Joan, we'd also need the URIs of the songs you see being affected.
