My Question or Issue

This is really a RFE: Spotify desktop app on Linux should comply with the standard of quitting with the CTRL+q key combo, as all well-behaved apps do 😉

Or Ctrl+w or Ctrl+Shift+w. Really strange behavior.

Agreed. IMHO Ctrl+q (quit) would be the proper/best choice, but Ctrl+w (close window) should also work considering there's only one Spotify window 👍
