Spotify version 1.2.77.358.g4339a634

(Linux Mint 22.2)

Once the spotify-client downloaded via the apt is in the foreground, this particular process (the renderer process) consumes about 10 to 40% of the CPU. It of course makes the fans spin loudly on the laptop and is frustrating to listen to music.

One doesn't even have to have anything playing. Just having the application open and not minimized makes the renderer process go crazy with these CPU cycles.

This wasn't the case in the 1.2.8 version (that I was using in Linux Zorin due to the old UI that that version enabled me to use).

If there's a way to resolve the dependency **bleep** that installing that 1.2.8 version on mint, I'd go back to it irrespective of the newer version of the application.

Please this needs to be fixed.

I have even searched out similar topics of this issue, and there are no fixes.

Something's wrong with the renderer process when the application is in the foreground. If it's backgrounded, no issue at all.

Look into it please

Same here. I left Spotify running during an Ableton session on my M1 Pro Macbook and Spotify helper was using 275% to the point where I hit my file descriptor limit in the OS and couldn't open any new processes (tabs, etc.). Please fix urgently.

I've had to go back quite a few versions in time to Spotify 1.2.31.1205.g4d59ad7c for something else, and magically, this issue does not exist on this version. That means that this issue was introduced with the new layout options in recent versions of the application. It's amazing some of the things that are now working again, some bugs that don't even exist and stuff. I also lost some newer functions like Block Artist, and Exclude from Taste Profile.

But I'd take the listening in quietness and better performance on this version. The app is no more lagging. Everything is just so fast. It's quite breathtaking!
