Can't skip unless tabbed into Spotify window

Hey there Spotify Community! Recently I haven't been able to skip songs with my laptop's fast foward/rewind buttons, nor pause either. Anyone else having this problem?

Yeah I've been able to skip and pause music without being in the Spotify window but it seems recently I can't do that anymore, Like for example I would be playing a game in fullscreen and I would be able to change it or pause it but now I have to tab out of the game and unminimize Spotify then I can press the pause/skip button to do those actions

Ah okay, I can see the frustration.

There are a couple of workarounds in this thread which hopefully will be able to fix it for you but let me know how you get on.
