Spotify Randomly Pausing and Skipping

The app version of Spotify on my Macbook Pro has suddenly started randomly pausing and skipping songs. I've tried a clean deletion/reinstall but the issue is still happening. Sometimes, it's so frequent that it basically makes the app impossible to use.

Hi @mattdavies,

Does this occur when you're listening locally on your Mac or when playing on an external device using Spotify Connect? It's worth checking your sound settings and if possible, try switching to another audio playback device to see if you'd still experience the same behavior.

There's this user who had a similar issue and shares some steps on how they managed to solve it, so feel free to try them out as well. Clearing the app's preferences could also help here, here's how:

Open Finder on your Mac and click Go > Library (if you don't have hidden folders enabled, press the option key first and it should appear).
Go to Application Support > Spotify.
There you'll find a file called prefs, which holds info about the currently logged in account. Simply delete it.
While in the Spotify folder, you'll also find a Users folder. Open it and delete its contents as well.
Restart the Spotify app.

Note that you'll be logged out and your settings will be reset, so you'll have to adjust them again. If you had music downloaded for offline listening, you'll have to re-download it as well. Your library, however, will not be affected, so no worries there.

One of the most common reasons why your Spotify keeps pausing is because the account is being used on two devices at the same time. If someone is using the account at the same time as you, every time the other person presses 'play' on their device, your playback will pause.
