Plan

Premium

Country

Austria

Device

13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports

Operating System

macOS Ventura 13.4 (22F66)

My Question or Issue

Hey guys,

I migrated my backup from a M1 laptop to an Intel one. My Spotify app was gone and I wanted to reinstall it. That worked, but nonetheless after logging in it crashes instantly. It doesn't trigger any "Report this problem" window. The process in the Activity monitor is gone.

I tried already:

Removing the App

Removing "Spotify" directory from "~/Library/Application Support" as well as "~/Library/Caches/com.spotify.*".

Then restarting afterwards

Reinstalling and logging in

Exactly in this order and other orders. Nothing works! I also don't have any idea how to supply crash logs. If someone can instruct me, I'm happy to upload them.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Thanks for reaching out. Could you please provide us the following:

Is this on all devices or only on specific one(s)?

Does this happen regardless of which network you're connected to?

The exact Spotify Versions you use.

A video of the behaviour

With this information, we’d be happy to investigate.

Keep us posted.

Hi Joan,

thanks for your response!

This happens only on my MacBook Pro 13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports.

I tried my local WiFi and also tethering with my iPhone, same result. Also I tried switching from Safari to Chrome.

The Spotify version was just downloaded from the interner, so it must have been the most recent one. In the app bundle I can read version 1.2.14.1149.ga3ae422d-1070.

Attached you can find a video of the behavior. The app crashes almost immediately after clicking "continue to app" (second 11 in the video). You can't find it in the dock anymore (second 15). Unfortunately there isn't even a crash window by the operating system where I can submit a crash report.

Thanks a lot for investigating the problem!

All the best!

Hi @MihailY,

thanks for your response! I checked the hosts file and that's the content:

127.0.0.1 localhost

255.255.255.255 broadcasthost

::1 localhost

I tried to add these lines:

0.0.0.0 weblb-wg.gslb.spotify.com

0.0.0.0 prod.b.ssl.us-eu.fastlylb.net

And did

sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder

but it's still the same: Spotify crashing immediately.

OK i now found a solution for my own:

1. Remove Spotify from Applications (see Finder)

2. Execute in terminal:

rm -rf ~/Library/Application Support/Spotify
rm -rf ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.spotify.client.savedState
rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/com.spotify.installer
rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/com.spotify.client
rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.spotify.client.plist
rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.spotify.helper.plist
rm -rf ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.spotify.webhelper.plist

3. Re-download Spotify installer from website and execute it

Now you should be able to log into the app again without it crashing.

Maybe that helps other folks out there!
