Spotify does not work Mac

My Spotify app stopped working on my Mac.
The App does not show any content. I was able to perform a clean install which worked only one. After coming back to my Mac, the same issue occurred: Spotify does not show any content. After reinstalling the App again Spotify shows "client_token:101" as error message

I performed a clean install including restarting my mac which does not work, it shows just the error message above. (I followed the instructions)
I also checked Mac hosts file - no entries for Spotify

The iOS App works fine in the same network, also the Spotify webplayer in Safari. I can also stream Spotify on a Sonos speaker in the same network.

Thank you for your post here in the Community and welcome.

First up, thanks so much for the detailed explanation, and great troubleshooting so far.

In this case, you could try changing the proxy settings. Open the app, go to Settings, and change from Autodetect settings to No Proxy. Then restart Spotify and check if that helps.

If you're still having trouble, could you send over the exact version of Spotify you have installed and a screenshot of the error you're getting?

We'll see what we can suggest.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I already tried different proxy settings. Whether I set Spotify to "no proxy" or "detect automatically", there is no change.

I can sadly don't tell you the Spotify version - this option is greyed out when I click on "Spotify" in the menu bar.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

We understand everything else is working just fine, however, we'd recommend trying with a different internet connection. If you don't have any available, you could create a hotspot network from your mobile device and use it to check.

Additionally, if you have hardware acceleration enabled, try disabling it and let us know if that makes a difference. To do it, open Spotify and select the three-dot menu on the top left > View > Hardware acceleration.

Hi, I'm using Spotify für macOS (Apple Silicon) 1.2.29.605.g66a43ceb

I disabled hardware acceleration, after restarting Spotify the issue persists.

I also tried another internet connection - first with hotspot from my mobile phone, second another wifi - same issue.

Hey @hejpaul,

Thanks for keeping us in the loop!

Could you double-check for any local settings on your device that could be blocking the app? You might need to whitelist Spotify, in case there's any antivirus software or such that could be restricting access to the app.

Also, if possible, could you try logging into another Spotify account to see if the same thing happens? For example, you can ask a friend or family member to log into their own account on your Mac.

In this case, we can confirm the right team is aware of this behavior. They're currently looking into it in this thread, so we recommend having a look at it and providing us there with the info we'll need to report it. You can find the details we'll need you to send us in the Status Update message at the top of the thread.

In the meantime, we'd suggest you check possible new version updates in the three dot menu that you can find in the left-top of your screen in the desktop app. There, select Help> About Spotify. If there’s a new version available, you’ll see a button “restart to install”.

We'll be on the lookout!

Spotify has NEVER worked for me on mac . Ive reinstalled many times, its such a waste of my time having to troublshoot this. There are so many threads about the desktop app not working, it takes time to know which one to follow. Can a spotify engineer help. Im so fed up with this. I pay a premium and I can only use it on my phone. I shouldn't have to trawl through the internet to find a solution. I have other things to do. It SHOULD JUST WORK!!

Could you give us more info about the issue you're experiencing? Currently, we're aware of some issues on Macbook Air, and we're gathering info about it in this thread. If that's your case, make sure to leave your info there.

If it's different, could you send us a screenshot of what you're seeing on your end? You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert image option in the post editor. Make sure not to send any private info.

Also, make sure to send us the the exact make/model, operating system and Spotify version of your device.

I've also been having the same issue as of Monday on my Macbook Pro on v.15.6 and have been waiting to see if it was a larger server issue. It used to just be a completely blank screen but after restarting my mac, deleting and redownloading the app it will load a playlist if i give it a while but the home and search are still not working.

Thanks for posting in this thread! And kudos for already trying some troubleshooting steps.

Just to confirm, have you tried the steps mentioned earlier in this thread as well? For example changing the proxy settings, disable hardware acceleration, different internet connection, checking the system settings etc. This will also help us avoid repeating steps.

Should the issue persist, could you check if you notice the same behavior when using the Web Player? If you're using any VPN, make sure to switch it off as well, as it could interfere with the service.

Hi Maria,

I have tried changing using different internet connections (I don't use VPNs) and checked my Mac settings, I also just tried the no proxy and restart, which made loading playlists slightly faster but the other issues remain. And my Web Player has been acting fine so I've been using it instead.

Was just having the same problem. Tried reinstalling it but it didn't work. Solved it by simply logging out and then logging in again.

@Gianluca_villa and @leilaanan would you mind trying the logging out method mentioned by @Kaio7 to see if it makes any difference?

If the issue persists, we'd recommend clearing any entries which contain Spotify from the host files on your computer. To do so, you can follow the instructions mentioned in this post.
