Can't Drag Spotify Window

Hi,

For a while now I've been unable to click the top of the Spotify window and drag it around my desktop. This is only a problem with Spotify, not any other applications on my computer. It's a big pain! Has anyone else experienced this issue? I'm using Spotify v1.2.20.1216.ge7a7b92f. Thanks.

Make the desktop window bar easier to drag around

When the search bar is not visible in the desktop app due to insufficient horizontal window width, the tab is really hard to drag around. Even though there appears to be a giant gap in between the search and home icons on the left and the notification icon on the right, this area does not register properly.

I would appreciate a slight change to allow moving the window around more easily, since I tend to move it around quite a bit.

If the window is large enough, there is some space to drag the application. If the window is large enough, there is some space to drag the application. However, if the window is small, then I have to grab the application a few pixels from the search bar to the edge of the application. This is just a mockery.

I am having the same issue, April 2024. Been going on for a couple months now. I just did a fresh re-install as per the instructions in this thread and it did not help. I was able to move the window once after the install, but then when I clicked out of the spotify window, now it is locked in place on my screen again. I can minimize or maximize the window, but can not move it at all.

I'm using a windows PC with Windows 10 64 bit Professional Edition

Thanks for the reply. This behaviour is quite peculiar and we've been unable to reproduce it on our end thus far. Could you send us a screen recording showing what exactly is happening? Try grabbing at different spots, minimizing and then reopening the app, etc. If the files are too large to attach here in the Community, you can send them to us via Google Drive or as unlisted YouTube videos.

Hi,

I am not the original poster but I did face the similar inconvenience which I didn't experience previously. I usually put Spotify in the smallest window. I attached the screenshot seems the vast blank spaces I highlighted in red after the search button is not drag-able but which I would expect it to be. Currently it's only the really small margin at the top is drag-able. Not a huge problem but still annoying.

Hello, I have the same issue, everytime I open windows the app is centered and I cannot drag it. I have to stretch it out almost to the size of the entire window, drag it down to the bottome right corner where I always keep it and then reduce the size manually. Once the size is reduced I can no longer move it unless I manuall stretch it out again. This never used to happen before

Thanks for all the info you've provided!

Can you try resizing the UI with Ctrl + mouse wheel / or Ctrl + the plus/ minus keys? This should open enough space for you to be able to grab the app window without any issues.

We'd also recommend testing out these troubleshooting steps:

Perform a clean reinstall of the app
Check for any pending system updates on your device
Make sure Spotify's allowed through your Firewall
Flush DNS

I agree with this! some of us have rotated monitors going lengthwise down and to move the spotify window when its that wide is a literal pain in the rump!

I also have this issue. It's just poorly designed UI.

There needs to be a large chunk of the top part of the window that is only for dragging of the window. You've filled the bar with interactable elements, which make it very hard to move around.

Same issue. Had it for years now. I have 4k screens. Plenty of empty space at the top of the Spotify window. Doesn't matter - can't drag spotify. It seems to be the case that if i resize the window away from the top of the screen, THEN I can move the window using the very very top of the title bar. Have to resize first. Mac OS Sequoia 15.4.1. Also a note: this problem disappears when I turn off "Automatically hide and show the menu bar" in Mac OS control center. Come on, Spotify! You gotta fix this!

Still an issue on macOS 15.5 (24F74) with Spotify for macOS (Apple Silicon) 1.2.68.528.g50f97d42.

There is no drag point in the app, so moving it between monitors is impossible apart from using macOS’s exposé.

Titlebar icons shouldn' t be bigger thant their actual size

In Spotify:s Windows application, the icons are bigger than their actual size. Resulting in loss of "Clickable-area" to grab the window and drag away. Its hard finding spots that is "grab-able".

Usually in windows, users should be able to grab the applications header/titlebar and move to another place or screen. In Spotify this is kinda hard to do since there is close to zero area that is "grab-able". The area outside of icons isn't clickable and this area should belong to the header.

I don't have permissions uploading images, but i think you'll get what i mean with this.
