Not downloading, zip file corrupted Mac

I just purchased a m4 macbook running 26.2 Tahoe. I tried downloading spotify from Safari and Chrome. Every time I try to open the zip file it says Unable to expand "SpotifyInstaller.zip" into "Desktop". (Error 79 - Inappropriate file type or format.). I made sure the date is correct on my computer, made sure its opening with Archive Utility, even tried Unarchiver which just says the file is corrupted. I've deleted and redownloaded the zip file from the spotify website too many times now. Photoshop and google chrome downloaded just fine.

Am I doomed to using the web version?

On the Apple Community here I found a post where a user has encountered the same error message as you (Error 79). If standard unzipping with the Archive Utility and Unarchiver apps is failing, the most reliable fix is to use the macOS Terminal.

Here's how you can use Terminal to unzip the file:

Open Terminal (Cmd + Space, type 'Terminal').
Type unzip followed by a space.
Drag and drop the spotifyinstaller.zip file directly into the Terminal window to automatically paste the file path.
Press Enter. This often expands files that the GUI cannot.

Additionally, make sure to move the ZIP file from the Desktop to the Downloads or Home folder.

I have the same issue, and I tried using Terminal to unzip and it gave a corrupted file error.

I think the current Spotify installer has an issue. I can install other applications without problems. Only spotify

Hi, I'm having the same issue. I just got a new Mac Studio running Tahoe 26.2.

When I download the app from Chrome, I get a file named "SpotifyInstaller.zip". When I extract it using Archive Utilty, I get the following error message:

"Unable to expand "Spotifylnstaller.zip" into "Downloads". (Error 79 - Inappropriate file type or format.)"

When I extract the .zip using "The Unarchiver", I get the following message:

"Could not extract "Install Spotify.app/Contents/CodeResources" from the "SpotifyInstaller.zip" archive: The archive file is corrupted"

If I use terminal to unzip the file, a new terminal line appears that says "zsh: permission denied: ~/Downloads/SpotifyInstaller.zip"

If I download the app from Safari, I get an application file named "Install Spotify". If I open it, I get two error popups:

"Install Spotify" is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash."

and

"The application "Install Spotify" can't be opened."

I was just able to install it. I'm not sure what changed. I tried Safari again after multiple attempts using chrome and it just worked like normal. Didn't have to use Unarchiver or terminal. Hope it works for you!

Same issue. Unzipping with Terminal did no resolve the issue.

Chrome -- downloads zip and I get the 79 Error

Safari -- Says the "Install Spotify" file can't be found

Okay, so it is not just me seeing this error. I am also seeing errors when downloading via Safari or Chrome. When downloading via Safari, it does automatically unzip the contents, attempts to run the installer, which then tells me, "The application "Install Spotify" can't be opened." as well as another box, which states, "Install Spotify" is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash. Opening the ZIP file directly, tells me, Unable to expand "SpotifyInstall.zip" into "Downloads". (Error 79 - Inappropriate file type or format.) For the latter, I have tried to move the file to somewhere other than Downloads and I am still seeing the same error. I am not seeing anything stopping me via Gatekeeper. Unzipping via Terminal, tells me, You can't open the application "Install Spotify" because it may be damaged or incomplete.

I am also facing the same issue, I just received a new iMac yesterday for context. I have contacted Apple Support and they said they were able to replicate the same error (Error 79) on 3 devices - Mac Mini, Macbook air, and iMac.

Been talking to Spotify support and have tried a lot of their solutions but to no use so far. Extremely frustrating.

Not working for me as well. Tried unzipping via terminal, the unzip itself works, but the installer that it extracts doesnt work.

Sorry I have posted too early, I was quite sure that it will work with Safari because the installer didn't look broken (spotify logo) but it does not work when I tried to open.

Please shopify devs, solve this issue quickly
