Music stops and starts randomly. Spotify on Mac

Hi everyone.

I have been a happy Spotify user in many years now. Never a problem.

Yesterday I erased my Macbook Air and did a clean install of OS X Yosemite.
Did this and things was up and running again, like new!

Installed Spotify and logged in, listened to music as usual, all was ok.

I started to read some newspapers etc. With spotify playing in the background. Suddenly the music stops for about 2-3-4-5 seconds, and then started again where it stopped. After about 30 seconds, the music stops again.. I clicked on Spotify right after it stopped(in the dock), and the music started to play again.

I have found out that the music does not stop if I have the Spotify app open, but as soon as I do something else, browse the internet or something, the problem begin.

Is there any solution to this problem?

Hello there and welcome to the community,

Click Edit > Preferences

Scroll and click on 'advanced settings'

There, at the bottom, see in Compatibility section if 'hardware acceleration" is enabled. If so, disable it and see if that fix the problem.

I have been doing some research with Google, and it seems to be a problem with the use of USB DAC and the latest spotify.

I have been using my USB DAC(Burr-Brown) along with Spotify a long time without any problem at all. Reinstalled my MAC yesterday and installed a new Spotify version..

I tried to switch over to headphones by the 3,5mm jack and the problem is all gone..

This is driving me kind of crazy...

I tried out the Web-player, that works fine, so the problem seem to be the Mac-player... 😞

I had spotify premium for years and it always worked great. I stopped using it for a a few months and recently came back to it. I couldn't even get through a song! It would stop and start constantly. It took about 5 minutes to play 30 seconds of 1 song. I'm a Premium member, this should not be happening, wifi or no wifi (I have unlimited data).

The Compatibility section has been removed from the ver 1.0.20.101.ge6957e14

I am currently using an USB DAC (Fiio E7) on my iMac (OS X EI Capitan 10.11.1),

both iTunes and Spotfly web player are working fine with the DAC, but the Spotfly Mac app 😕

Me too - been using spotify for months with a Dragonfly USB DAC with no problems.

Then yesterday all songs starting to pause then start again randomly - thought it was my internet connection but that's pretty solid.

iTunes & webplayer work without issue.

Using Spotify Desktop V1.0.33.106.g60b5d1f0.

Really annoying!

It seems that no one has found the solution yet. Just want to add that I have the same problem here. Running Spotify 1.0.42.151.g19de0aa6 on Mac Sierra. It's creepy when suddenly resumes playing after being dead for like half an hour.

I've been having the same issue suddenly. Running Spotify on Mac, it only started today. No idea what is causing it.

EDIT: I found out what is causing my issue. Check to see if a device called "Spotiamb 0.2.1" is listed under My Devices. If so, try disconnecting your Spotify account from Facebook, Soundhound, Shazam, or any other apps. Then reset your password for Spotify. I'm not sure if all these steps are necessary, but the "Spotiamb device" is apparently a known exploit that causes playback issues.

I'm still having this problem on a macpro (the dustbin ones) 2013, osX El capitan. It's really weird. It has to be something to do with bluetooth connections, as I play via a bluetooth speaker in the office. Sometimes it'll work fine for a month, and then today again, it keeps starting and stopping and opening iTunes randomly. It's all over the place.

I'm having the same problem with the desktop app for MacBook Air 2014 with High Sierra 10.13.3, since the last update. Curiously, it happens when I listen to pop music and not with classical one!!
