Media keys no longer work

My Question or Issue

Media keys DO NOT work. I am not able to go forward, backward or play/pause a song. At first I thought it was my keyboard, but alas, it was the Spotify app. Spotify also doesn't show up as playing media when I scroll my volume up or down nor does it show up on the lockscreen. On my Surface everything is supposed to stop playing when "the lid" is closed, well Spotify just keeps on going as it isn't recognized as media.

Please fix.
