Hey @yiannis_pan,

Thanks for posting on the Community and welcome.

Could you tell us if this happens when logging in with another account.

Additionally, send us over a screenshot of the "ghost" you see in the notification area.

Lastly, we suggest that you uninstall the app once more, then, restart the computer in Windows Safe Mode and reinstall the app. To enter Safe Mode, type "msconfig" into your computer's Search bar > hit enter on System Configuration > select the ‘Boot’ tab > select 'Safe Boot (with networking)'. Afterwards, open the Start menu, input %AppData% in the search bar and press Enter. The folder C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming should open (default).

Delete the Spotify folder in there.

Subsequently, switch to \AppData\Local and then "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Spotify" in order to delete the Spotify folders from there too (if you find them).

Lastly, reinstall Spotify (and restart your computer) from this link.

We'll keep the music down until we hear back from you.

Thanks for the help. I will give it a try later this evening.

This is what I meant saying "ghost".
The application closes without error message but the icon stays in notification area.

Also sometime I select an artist and when I click to listen to the popular songs, nothing happens. (see attached video)

Hey folks,

Thanks for posting here and all the info submitted.

There is a newer version of the Spotify app that was released recently, so I advise you all here to complete a clean reinstall of the app, as this is more thorough than the normal one and ensures that no cached data will cause interference with the new installation of your app. See if the app will behave normally and as expected afterwards.

Hope this does the trick for you, reach out if you need more help!

Hey there @yiannis_pan,

Thanks for your reply.

We're sorry that you feel this way, but no worries, we'll keep doing our best to help you.

We can confirm that the current version is 1.1.88. Could you let us know if you've already tried reinstalling the app by following the steps @AndresM sent previously?

On another note, we'd like to know if the issue happens on the web player too or only on the desktop app.

Regarding the updates - It's currently not possible to disable automatic updates. You'll keep getting the prompt to update and restart the Desktop app if there is a newer version available.

Lastly, would you mind trying with a different internet connection to see if that makes the difference?

We'll be on the lookout.

Hi Eni.

Thank you very much for your concern.

I've found the awkward way to stop the auto update "feature" through the remove, create and deny permissions to Update folder.

So I can use the 1.1.86 to playback music. This version three days now, seems to work as expected.

I tried the web player (I'm not using it usually) and I didn't experience any problem.

Also on Android there was no error-problem.

Until 1.1.86 all was working fine. Since 1.1.87 the problems begun.

So, in general I think I will keep the old version of the program and see what happens next.

In general I think:

The desktop application should have an auto-update option for user to set on/off as any serious software.

On Spotify site one should be able to download a previous version as a fallback-rollback procedure in case current version is not working as expected. There is NO software without BUGS.
